Hi guys.. my name is Dave and I live in Palos Park, Illinois.
New to the sport/hobby and until this morning, I didn't own any metal detecting equipment.... but I just changed that a bit ago when I bought an Equinox 600 and Garrett pinpointer from a member of this community. Yeehaw!
Can't wait to get started exploring some of the local treasures in the Palos Park/Chicago area.

Has anyone ever done any hunting down by the Cal Sag canal? I imagine there's probably a ton of iron and junk there but it'll be one of my first hunts since its so close to me.
Additionally, I'll be up in Chicago near the University of Chicago on Friday morning. Hopefully, I'll have my new equipment in hand and ready to go by then.

Hit me up if you're available to do some hunting with me this Friday. I'll be available up there until about noon. then I have to help my son move out of the University.

Regards..
Dave
PS-- I introduced myself last night on another new member's thread.. sorry tdg8934, I didn't mean to 'thread jump' ya :coffee2:

Welcome to the forum from Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania

I went to an old farm site today. Farm is gone since about 1961 but I think I may have found it's 'dump'. ( the first map I saw it on was a map from 1938)

I didn't bring my Nox because I wanted to walk it off first to see if I could locate the site of the house and barn. The closest I got was locating an apparent and mostly destroyed stone wall on top of a wooded berm and maybe where they used to dump their trash. I'll check tomorrow with my metal detector but for now, I found a surface find of a broken white 'glass' object. There is some signs that there may be other trash buried but there were NO OTHER structures near the site (no other homes/buildings...only this farm).

Aslo sent FR hope to see you soon postings.

Welcome to the site from middle Georgia! You're in a pretty decent area for detecting. Be careful in Cook County though, so you don't run afoul of local ordinances, especially on school campuses. You can get in a bind and Illinois schools seem to have more than their fair share of a-holes. Make sure you check with the parks and rec people up there too. If you can hook up with a local club, they will speed up the learning curve. But there's some great history up there and old farms too. Glad to have ya here!

Let me know if you need help reseaching your area Im going to be researching maps to provide to tnetters
