Hello everyone, been reading the great posts on this site for some time and finally signed up to post. I was wondering if anyone could here would be able to help ID some bullets I dug today. Sorry for the dark pictures, most are a brighter white than appear. I know they are post civil war but I am guessing 1870-1900 pistol bullets with maybe one or two being even newer. Thanks for any help.

The top three and the bottom two on the left look like modern bullets. the bottom two on the right look like Civil War period pistol bullets. PM Vol1266X. He is the expert on bullets.

Can't help with the ID but, looks like stuff I find at an old clay bank near the house.
Maybe post on the "What's it?" forum?
Good Luck

I agree the two on the bottom right appear to be be CW period pistol bullets. What McKee and Masons book refers to as a foreign mold for pistols.

Thanks for the help. The site I am digging these at had shooting events from the 1860's to 1930 and is now within the city and is a public park so I'd be suprised if any were too modern. In the 1860's it would have been all german and swiss immigrants doing the shooting so I'd expect foreign guns and ammo. The pointed ones you identified were found with others of the same type in an isolated area and all have a deep patina. The ones on the top left also appeared old to me also. I've dug some civil war era rifle shot but haven't seen much pistol lead. The one second from the left, bottom row seems the most modern to me.I know they make similar bullets to the ones on top today but when did they start making rounds like that? There is some great local history to any of these that are from the 1800's so I'd enjoy being able to I.D. approx. time frames. I'll send vol 1266 a PM.Thanks again for all of the help.

The two bullets on the bottom right are German. I have found several here in Germany. HH, Mike

Hey Bavaria Mike, there are German bullets like these.....I've dug several like these in Virginia....They look like a variant of Dimmick or either a type of Bavarian...I will look in my collection and post in a few  :icon_thumleft:

I believe the bullets are from the mid to late 1700s, Revolution era in America. The field where I found several of those bullets had 1700s through 1900s relics, I also found several musket balls there. I've also read about Prussian troops in the American Revolution, I believe the British used them as mercenaries. Hope that helps. HH, Mike

cool finds. wecome to Tnet :hello:

the top left two look like "thomson maxi balls" the early type
1960 or so
