Hello and greetings to all!!!! I am absolutely over whelmed with the knowledge and information I'm getting from this site, this is an amazing site. Did anyone else's head almost explode trying to soak in all of the information here or what?

A little about me, I'm 32 married, 2 kids, FT job (IT Manager), never before have i MD'd, i dont even own a MD....Yet!!!!

(I'm sure you all heard this be4 but...) I've always been fascinated by relics, fossils, old coins and just history in itself, not to mention sometimes wealth, the latter being least important.

The wealth of knowledge here is astounding and i find my self flip flopping all over to find a local area near me to MD. I plan on starting in my backyard (York City, PA.) i even plan on burying my own treasures so i can tune my self to the different metals, (im assuming the MD makes different sounds depending on the metals).

So without further adieu here are some of my questions....?

I would like to get a new ACE250 to start with, but what other MD's would be good for a newcomer and for someone on a budget?
I know a few people at work that have farms, with out knowing if any monumental/ historic events that have happened there is it still worth the time to ask and MD their farm or surrounding areas?
When you mention tot lots are you talking about the playgrounds in the parks?
Are areas surrounding lakes worth any effort to MD, for instance Lake Redman?

Those are my questions for now, muahahaha, but im sure i will have a ton more...
Thanks for reading, and have a Great Day !!!!
(BTW i posted this same thing in the general as well, if this is not allowed let me know sorry in advance)

You might look at the Tesoro lineup and the White' s products. I started with a Bounty Hunter and did OK. Now I have an ACE in the hole so to speak. Ace 250 as backup to my Minelab Safari. Welcome, and the answer to your other questions is yes! You'll soon be addicted. Monty

Welcome ST

I almost feel addicted already, and haven't even gone out any where :)

Thanks for the feedback ill check out the other MD's you mentioned.

Hey silverthumb, I have an ACE 250 and what I can say is it was super fast to start. Turn on and go. If you decide to go with the Ace250 go to youtube and look up video' s. Lots of good info there. BTW where do you live (general location). Just wondering if I got a new MD'ing buddy close by or not. I am in Chester County Pa. Just east of Lancaster County!! :hello: :hello:

the ace 250 is a good machine, also the white's prizm line. good luck on whatever you pick.
as far as places to go MDing, go to where you think you might find something, ask permission if it's private property.
don't give up, just when you think it's been hunted out, something pops up

Yeah every where i go or drive now im looking for old abandoned farm houses and things like that plotting out sites.
The thing i have a problem with is the prospecting for old places like groves, old abandonded schools, and such for my area.
But im sure ill find it some where, looking thru these forums.. :icon_thumright:

go to your local courthouse and see if you can find any old platt maps or an atlas, older the better.
also remember if you drive by it on a regular road chances are pretty good it's been hunted but that doesn't mean you won't find something.
also practice up on asking for permission, start out with friends, friends of friends, that will usually branch out into more sites than you can MD
good luck

Sniffer
