Hi Everyone.
I thought I'd start here and introduce myself. I've been interested in metal detecting since 1996. One day I went to Radio Shack and picked up a Micronta Discovery 2 metal detector. Initially I just used it for recovering brass casings after target shooting. It worked very well for this. Then hobbies and interests changed and it just got tossed in the closet for many years. About 7 years ago, I had a renewed interest in the hobby. I had just bought a new house and so I thought I'd take a stroll around the back yard. Well...I spent more time trying to figure it out then actually detecting and memories of why I didn't stick with the hobby came back. Anyway, I finished sweeping the yard and all I found was a matchbox car and a large chunk of iron about 12 inches down.
Over the years I have taken it to the beach on several occasions, only to find nails, bottle caps, beer cans and tent stakes. Although, last year I did find a 20 dollar bill on the top of the sand...yeah, score!![headbang :headbang: :headbang:](https://www.treasurenet.com/smilies/headbang.gif)
Anyway, all I do is surf youtube and forums and see people finding all kinds of stuff. I really want to do this I thought, so this weekend I ordered a Fisher F2 and it should arrive anytime this week. I can't wait to try it out. We had a nice sunny weekend, so after placing my order, I got out the Micronta again and let my 10 year old daughter have a go at it. We swept the front yard this time. We only had about 30 minutes though, but we were able to make 2 passes and dig 6 plugs. She must have a special touch for this detector. She found 2 pennies and 4 nails. This is the first time this thing ever found coins. I figure I'll let her tag along on my trips and she can just use the Micronta. She had a lot of fun finding stuff buried in the ground.
