Greetings form Ruckersville, Virginia.
My name is Dana and if your wondering, and I know some people are, WHERE is Ruckersville? Well, it's located about 10 miles outside of Charlottesville, Va. We're a small town, so small in fact that we barely even show up on the map. LOL
I just got involved in Metal detecting. I've always had an interest in ti since I was a kid, not a day went by without me digging in the dirt pulling something out when I was a kid. It was a nightmare for my poor mother when it came to washing my clothes.
My long time girlfriend suggested I pick up a hobby since I DO work but can only do light work with my physical issues regarding my back. She knows I love being outdoors, so I decided to re-adventure into digging in the dirt and bought my first metal detector late last year. It's a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. Nice little piece of equipment that will do the job I think. I have have not found anything significant as of yet but just being outdoors, enjoying nature and finding something is half the fun for me.
So that is my introduction. I'll be more than happy to take any tips, tricks, and/or techniques that you good people have and are willing to give.
Happy Hunting.

Welcome Dana. Read everything posted on this forum that you can. Look at the pictures so even things you've never seen before will be recognized once you dig them. One thing I have learned is this: until your gf threatens to kick you to the curb for hoarding, keep everything found if you don't know what it is until you can verify that it is worthless, lol. There are people here that have been doing this for many years and have seen just about anything that can be found. They will gladly ID your finds when you post pics. I wish you much enjoyment in this hobby.

Welcome aboard Dana! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Virginia for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome Dmstoehrer! As a fellow with physical issues as well, I "feel your pain". Its just too darn fun though, so we take more aspirin. Good luck!

Yeah. I have a VERY bad back. I have Scoliosis so it hurts alot sometimes but it's good for me to get up, get out, enjoy the outdoors and stretch my legs and my back. I usually don't feel it until the END of the day but I FEEL it. And your right, it's just too darn fun getting out there and finding things and digging in the dirt.LOL
