New member here, (lurked for a year) need a little help ID'ing a locket type thingy I found a couple weeks back.

Found shallow in the grass at the local School district, 1 1/4" tall, 7/8" across the bottom, no markings at all. Flat portion on the bottom was soldered to the top and the solder was flaky, add a little overzealous cleaning and walla, it came off. Wanted to see what was inside anyway, a flat perhaps silver plate that has two rivets holding in the internal center portion. A rivet at the top and it is gold. Plated on the bottom piece and just the very tip of the item is slightly magnetic.

Any ideas? and thanks for the help.

Thanks for the look BioProfessor, Had the bottom piece off, no release it fell off, would have to mangle it further to get the center out. Didn't think of a fob, makes sense.

When the bottom came off, was it just a flat piece of metal? Could you see inside the other part? Is it magnetic?

The inside of the bottom was an inset rectangular silverish (tarnished) piece of metal with pins bent over to retain the end of whatever piece of metal is riveted up top. From the upper rivet to the bail is slightly magnetic.

The fob makes sense but have not found a match as of yet.

Thanks again.

Looks as if it might be a seal fob with the matrix unengraved or missing.

That was my first thought.

Would be interesting to know what else was stuck inside.
