Our 2nd year student  Land-magnet (as I call him), rustled up another couple of pasture fields which were last ploughed 10 years ago. It was worth a try, as we have very few options & any previous ploughed field might produce.

After 3 hours the only significant find was a Medieval Sexfoil or leather mount with a cherub design & some guilding.
However, on the way back to the car Dad got a Crotal Bell - still rings with the iron pea!

Plus our host got his first Hammered & its a good one, won't say anymore until he can post it. (problem is his laptop is being fixed) - so the best find was on the return trip to the car! (funny how many times this happens) :icon_scratch:

Yeah I'd take it!

Nice to get out & luck dip (no research), new land is always exciting on the first hunt. This one will just be a back-up field, we will return to the stubble tomorrow.

We do that quite a bit too... save so-so fields for back up and move on.

Nice digs :icon_thumleft: always good to know a land magnet :laughing9: I am the same way though, I'll knock anywhere even if they say no, you're in the same boat as if you never asked anyway. :laughing7: Your good fields should open soon I imagine

No, we have to wait until after harvest in Aug & can't do most of our good land until Sep/Oct :'(

he's working on it, just got a owner who wants a contract, funny thing is he sent it to Belgium & his legal team to look at :D :D :D

Will you be able to get any good detail out of the Sexfoil after conservation or is that the extent? That would be a cool item to see restored/cleaned up. And good for you, you don't have to have a jackhammer to fish out your finds.

Hi Crusader,

I have recently found a Toothpaste lid similar to the one you found in your photo that is made with the areca nut. I found it digging in Honolulu Hawaii of all places. Just thought I'd share.

Aloha! from Hawaii!

Cool, as a kid I spent many hours digging bottle dumps and hoping to find a complete pot lid, but I never did. Nice find!

Great digs! You guys are so lucky to have such great areas to hunt in :headbang:

I like that bell :icon_thumleft:

Land magnet must be luckier than you :o :o

Nice finds, still the bells make a hunt all that much better. :icon_thumright:

Oh well. It probably looks better live than in the photo. Still a great find. I also saw a ring there. What is the info on that?

Hey Cru,
the sexfoil is superb, right at the top of my list. Well done :icon_thumleft:. We have a few fields here that are now free after the shooting season so lets keep our fingers crossed. I am going to detect a field tomorrow that has not been detected before, I did give it an hour last Sunday but the finds were not worth posting. See Tnet Sunday night.

Again well done
