I was hunting solo today. I spent time on a new field that looked good but after 3 hours my best find was a 1723 Irish halfpenny & a possible Medieval bell fragment. Thankfully Dad popped by to see how I was doing & give me a lift to a nearby small field I haven't tried yet. This field was the opposite of the totally quiet one I had left but most swings where trash/foil etc. Thankfully in the last 20 minutes I saved the day with a nice shoe buckle. The most complete one of this type I have found.
Dad had scouted a nearby freshly ploughed field that we had some Roman Coins on at the being of the year. He said you have 10 minutes to get a Roman Coin & I did get 1 scrappy, the first 1 in April.

Tough times ahead...

very interesting ;)

Looks like a pretty good haul. I'm sure you guys across the pond are getting flooded with detectorists since the latest "hoard find." And those "newer coins" you find are damn near ANCIENT in "American" terms. :)

Nice buckle, it is amazing the pin doesn't rot off, just good luck that it doesn't ? Assuming the pivot pin is iron.

Yeap, it's iron, that's why I don't have an example like this. Specially as its partly ploughed.

That's one beautiful buckle Cru! :occasion14:
The maker must have been very proud of it to have marked it!

What is it made of pewter? :icon_scratch:

Tombac frame with a once tinned copper-alloy guts.
