🔎 UNIDENTIFIED New Jersey brass item

Found in central va today on a site dating from early 1700s with a good bit of CW activity. Very small, at best half (likely smaller) the size of a dime. Says “state of New Jersey” around the outside with the nj seal in the middle. Can’t see anything on the back to make me think a shank was attached. Assuming tied to CW, but not certain. Was suggested that it could have been mounted in a sword blade, near the handle, but never seen one of those with a state seal. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Agree tie pin or tie bar....In fact I seem to remember another on here before.

Not knowing what the back looks like, but going on the size and possibly being silver. I'd say either a lapel pin, tie tack or off of a tie bar.
