Hello Everyone, I'm new to CRH out in the Los Angeles area. Last week was my first week, I searched about $1600 worth of halves and got pretty lucky on some loose finds at a couple banks. 1 stop had $7 loose that had 3x64 and 2 clads. Another place had $30 rolled and one roll had 2x64 and 5 clads. I found some more loose clads and obtained a new sealed box on friday that had 7 more clads in it.

All total I pulled
5x 64
19 x 40%s
also found 1 silver quarter and 1 silver dime.

I think im addicted now and have about 10-12 boxes rolling in to different branches this week that I ordered during the week. I'm sure some will be duds and I had a nice stroke of beginners luck but I'll be eager to post my findings next weekend.

Also, what are the value of 2002 and later halves the ones people call NFIC, what does that mean? I found several from 2002-2010 and saved them, but not sure if they are actually worth more than there face of 50 cents? Can anyone give me some advice on these?

Thanks!

Very good and welcome!
Just for the record, refer to the clad as "silver clad" or 40%. All circulation coins after 1970 in halves would be clad.

thanks for the clarification enamel :-)

Honestly I do not think that NIFC's have real value, but I keep any in decant "shiny" shape since it is face value and I can cash them in whenever. The dirty, scratched, nicked, or marked NIFC's I just throw back into the wild. Proofs on the other hand are NIFC's as well. Never gotten a proof though, but if I ever do, no matter how bad of shape, I will keep it.

Good luck and happy hunting!

From what has been reported on the forum, the Mint is 10 years behind in half dollar circulation. Several of our Left Coast members are finding boxes of 2001Ds. That's 1000 of the same coin.(yuck). The NIFC stands for Not Intended For Circulation. These coins are coming out of broken up mint sets. They are certainly rare but not terribly valuable(yet)
Your newbie finds are great and some of us vets would kill for that success. Cheers, Jim

That's a nice hunt any day. Welcome to T-net.

Bigheed,
Welcome to the forum. Nice finds for you just starting out. I wish you luck with your next boxes.
Keep in mind that there are good times and bad tines in this hobby, so don't get discouraged with
"skunk" boxes.

Since it's Los Angeles, check your Grocery Store too. I once read an article that talked about people in L.A using Silver Coins to pay for groceries. Crazy luck too, that's probably over half my collection in one trip.

Don't be suprised if you get new 2001-D's if you order that many coins.

Bighead,
Welcome! Sounds like you did very well! That is a good score by anyone's standards. Keep charging.
As for NIFC's, collector's call. I personally set aside a roll of each year, then spend the others to give someone else a shot at them!
Best to you in the hunt!
Steve

thanks everyone for the warm welcome and advice !

I did get a $250 box of dimes that were 100% brand new 2010s lol....oh well...hopefully i dont see that box of 2001 halves or to many skunks, but I guess thats just part of the game :-)

Hope to have some fun results to share this weekend!

Also, regarding the "S" mintage, are all S mints proof coins? I havent seen a single "S" mint yet.

Thx
Bigheed
