Relic Hunting
Went to a new spot yesterday here in the Shenandoah Valley that shows a lot of promise. Although the owner has actually hunted the site (small farm with colonial era home) for years, I was able to pull a few goodies out of the ground that he’s missed. He’s found a number of Civil War related relics including buttons and plates. The home dates to the late 18[SUP]th[/SUP] century, had slave cabins on it, is believed to have a small Confederate encampment on it, was home to a prominent Virginia politician and is right next door to an early 19[SUP]th[/SUP] century schoolhouse. The history of the place is quite amazing.

I was only able to spend a little more than 2 hours on the property but I’m pleased with what I found in this short survey hunt. I’ve been invited back and will definitely be going back soon. Inventory from my initial survey hunt:

1 1916 Barber Dime
1 1943 Washington Quarter
19th century Salt shaker cap
Small brass 19th century clasp/fastener
Brass rivet
18th-19th century pottery pieces
1 handblown “CHESEBROUGH MFG CO VASELINE” bottle, circa 1885

Looks like you might be onto something Richard. Good luck hitting that spot!

Very good signs there's still lots of stuff to be found there.
Good luck
