My buddy bought a new hf coil and had it shipped to me and I gave it a whirl on a site yesterday. I will say this its a very stable coil and you jack the sensitivity way up,I don't like the fact the tx is lock on 2. If anyone wants to buy a new hf coil that's been used once send me a pm.I might take it out a another time but doubt it.

I'm assuming it's the round? I kinda want the elliptical.

it is, I'm interested in the 5 x 10 myself .

While you have the coil we all would like you to make some of your great videos putting it through its paces. Tell us what you like, dislike, settings, etc..... I for one would love to see you critique the coil run in V-4.

Thanks,
Glen

I don't like version 4 period it likes to make iron sound good like a good non ferrous target, compared it side by side with 3.2 today and ver 4 sounded good and 3.2 was a broken signal on a piece of deep iron. I don't care for the hf coil either as a relic hunter it brings nothing to the table for me. Jewerly hunters might find it useful. I will be moving my machine back to 3.2 as soon as I get time. Some guys love it but I don't like the way it makes iron falses sound.

Would you have possibly been running negative discrimination in your testing?
Negative Discrimination and the X/Y programs are going to screw people up I have a feeling...for separate reasons....especially X/Y....run a test with a square nail next to silver....the tone will say dig......X/Y display will say not to dig. My point is Deus is a tone machine, the X/Y program is basically another form of VDI, going back to your point on the other thread about CTX's and etrac users passing up good targets because of the "bad" ferrous/non ferrous numbers....X/Y will hurt you more than help I think.

I was hunting a great site today with lots of iron and it was just not doing good. FALSING on iron way worse than 3.2 and yes disc was -2.5 to -1.5 and moved it to 1.0 and it didn't help . The iron falses are smooth and sound really good with version 4 imo. I don't use the xy screen but I understand exactly what your talking about. My machine with 3.2 always seemed to be in tune with the 9 inch coil not so much in version 4.

Interesting.....well I'm headed to PA next week for a week to trout fish and detect (heavy iron old foundations).....i guess I better take my laptop with 3.2 ready to go.....ive only been using 4.0 in "clean" areas so far...

Calabash, I actually like the V4 in the iron. I haven't run it side by side against 3.2 like you did, but I do find it easier to pick out the iron. Maybe it's because I an using Mutli Tones with a bit of Discrim. I think you are a Full Tones guy. Not sure if that makes a difference. I passed up a lot of iron today. I had a deep iron today that fooled the XY screen but I could still hear the iron buzz of the end of it. Maybe I'm just paying more attention to the tone quality since I installed V4. What ever it is, it's working for my ears.

I dont know whats going on with me I cant get in tune with it. I am using full tones maybe they tweaked something there. I dont know but I was not doing well with it today.

I've been running side by side programs, one with full tones and one with three tones & iron volume to check targets.

I found a cool relic this morning in the woods....older taxi badge...no problems with falsing today in pretty heavy iron but did have a slight battery issue....powered up and my coil meter was flashing....then it settled down after 30 seconds and stayed at 1 bar off of full power....annoying and hopefully it doesn't happen again

Based on a number of reports, there appears to be some sort of bug in the battery meter software. I think it even resulted in misreading my coil battery level as 0 at one point on a coil I knew had very little run time since the last charge. I charged the coil and all is well so far, but this happened once before about a week earlier and I just chalked it up to not getting the clip fully on when charging. Now I am not so sure.

I think there are legitimate cases of this, but I also think that there are a lot of people who just don't have confidence in v4 based off the legitimate glitches (disc and expert settings) that had to be corrected, in addition to dead coils during an update. This lack of confidence can result in a belief that there are issues where none may exist. (Just read some of the posts regarding the MI-6 - some people don't know how to read a manual). I'm personally still wrestling with the possibility that coils could be damaged during an update and still work to some degree (based on dead coils during update). No one has given me a good answer to that yet.

I started a new thread to have people document any COIL battery issues (not displaying full bars after full charge, reduced battery performance, etc.) with version 4. Myself, Deep Digs, and Deft Tones have experienced this dead coil battery issue when the coild should still have had sufficient capacity. Seems like more than just a coincidence.

I believe you do have a legitimate issue.

And mine is running quieter while dropping to -3.0 Discrim still in full tones. Same program as before.

I started playing with GB - tracking and then going into expert GB mode and then notching out about 4-5 buttons presses. Really made my deep program quite down and the silver and other good targets stand out.

Andy says there is no downside to taking the ground notch bar to all black. Glad your experience is consistent with that advice.

I was playing with Tracking and tried what you did. Do you remember what you notched out? What were you at for GB? I was between 78 - 85 when tracking. I thought I read somewhere going below 85 was bad.... is that only the case if you GB is steady around 90?

When you say take the ground notch to all black, just keep clicking till it goes to 60?

In the pic above, Looks like GB is set at 90 and the actual reading is 79. If so, what would be a suggested ground notch?

I might be confusing myself here?!?!?! :tongue3:
Appreciate any info.
