New here, can't wait to get started.

Hi everyone. I am so new here that I do not even own a metal detector yet. I plan on ordering mine this week. I have been on a few hunts with my father years ago and really loved it. I'm from South Jersey and would love to check out the SJ M'D group at their next meeting next month. Anyone here members?

I've read quite a few posts here and have some questions that I did not see questions/answers to, if you don't mind me (re)asking them (my apologies if I missed these). Or if they have been asked, direct me to that post, please.

1.) Is it a good idea to purchase a cheapie model for a beginner (for me it's not a fad; I plan on doing this forever) or a mid-ranged priced model to start out with. I know you get what you pay for..... lol

2.) What is your favorite time to go metal detecting? Do you find it easier in the mornings when there are fewer people about?

3.) Without making an advertisement, what is your favorite metal detecting book that you have read. (You can pm this info if it's not allowed on the boards.)

I'm sure I will have many more questions, but for now I thank you for reading this and helping a gal out.

I am pretty new myself and chose the ace 250...I wanted to get started with a less expensive machine and I like this one but have nothing to compare too.
Some of the old (sorry for that) timers can help with your choice depending on what you want it for..Land , Beach etc.
I like mornings since I am a morning person...I would recommend the Garrett Pro Pointer to go along with whatever machine you purchase . I didn't realize how helpful they are until I purchased one..
Have loads of fun...

You are welcome ..I forgot to mention that some of the best advice I have been given is that it is not so much the detector that you use ,but more importantly that you know the machine well...Let me know which one you decide to get..HH

I think the best advice I have been given is to really get to know your machine and that it's not so much what one you get but how well you know it that counts
