Hi everyone! I live in the Mississippi delta and my house is surrounded by cotton fields. I'm about a hour north of Vicksburg, MS. I'm also about 7 miles from the Mississippi River. My children and I were medal detecting and came across this strange item in my yard. It's either copper or brass and the symbols on it is odd. My husband thinks he sees CS. His family owns property about 5 miles from our home and he has found Civil War relics such as belt buckles, muskets, bullets, etc. I would also like to mention that my home is located on a old plantation. Now, does anyone have an ideas of what this could be? Thanks so much!!!!

His looks like the top of an old fork or spoon. Not the business end the end that goes in your hand.

Based on the object's size in comparison to the quarter in the photo, I believe it is a broken-off piece of a padlock's keyhole cover.

It does have the letters C and S on it... but it actually says "S & Co". It is shown upside-down in your photo ...so I've re-oriented it in the photo posted below, to make the "S & Co" marking more recognizable.
