Detector(s) used
discovery 2200
Hello all, I just got into the hobby. I didnt have enough money to buy the best, so I bought the my first detector from you know where. It was cheap and it works. I have taken it out about five times and so far I am pleased. I found a silver ring with two rubies in it, three dollars in clad, and an old pocketwatch template. I think they put it in a press to imprint things on the back of pocketwatch cases. It has the words Fahys, 10k, Montauk, and 8407 all backwords or mirrored. This is just what I deduced. So I am very excited to see how it goes from here on in. I have tried to post some pics, but the files are too big and this is the only camera I have. Any Ideas? Thanks for reading and I hope to have some pictures up soon.

Re: New Guy

Welcome to t-net . try opening your pictures with microsoft paint and edit them down to about 40%,then save them. You should be able to post them after you do this. This is how I post mine and it works just fine. If that doesn't work someone else here can tell you other ways to do it. Anyway welcome and happy hunting!! BIGHEAD

Re: New Guy

Welcome to Treasure Net dude! :) Congratulations on all of the finds! What detector do you use?

Re: New Guy

Welcome to T-Net guys. I have only been at it for two years, but I sure have learned some lessons. Dig often and dig iffy signals until you learn your detectors. You will be surprised what you might find. Welcome again!

Re: New Guy

Hey , Wow! thanks for all the support and great posts. I bought the cheap metal detector from radio shack. The discovery 2200. I am very pleased with it so far. It has been great to start out with. The first two times I took it out I didnt even find clad. The third time I took it out to the same spot. I found the silver ring and tons of change. I guess its all in the day and timing.Needless to say I was hooked. I have always been a fan of treasure hunting though. I have been reading and apparently rubies are just as hard as diamonds, so the stones are likely something else because they are sctrached pretty bad. Others have mentioned that the template for pocketwatch cases was for newspaper ads. ??? I am adding the pics, hopefully they come through. Thanks for the advice.

One small step for man; one giant leap for another detectorist! I've said it before and I'll say it again... a hundred dollar machine you know well will find more than a thousand dollar machine you just can't figure out. You'll be posting with the best of 'em before long! TTC

Sweet looking ring, and that template is so cool!! Great job and persistance will pay off for all us newbies as we detect more often and learn our machines! The detector is nothing to be ashamed of. Heck i gave 20 bucks for a early 70 model 6000/d Haven't used it but twice in my yard but when i learn it I'll get better. HH Tom
