Garrett ACE 150
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Hello all!

I'm new here, and new to treasure hunting, though I've been interested in it since I was a kid. I never got around to buying a metal detector, and my wife surprised me with one this year for Christmas. Without knowing too much about them, and with keeping a decent starting budget, she got me a Garrett ACE 150. I'm hoping it turns out to work well enough for a starter, as the reviews seem to be pretty good for them.

Look forward to sharing some fun finds in the future!

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Indiana for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Thanks for the welcome, VPN. (I'm a navy vet myself, former submariner)

Hello and welcome.

Thanks again for the welcome! :icon_thumleft:

Welcome to Tnet
The Ace 150 is a good machine to start with, read the owner`s manual till you understand it, and then read it some more.
Put some coins on clean ground and see how they sound,as opposed to some trash targets.
Read The Code of Ethics ,cut clean plugs, take your trash with you , and leave the ground looking in better shape then you found it . HH

Thanks, G.A.P... I have a feeling I'm gonna wear that book out! I'm already looking into little accessories... carry bags, digging tool, pinpointer, etc... to help me on my way, minimizing my digging. Code of ethics is something that'll come naturally to me, as I've been taught the same my whole life, since I was a kid camping, to my military years. I think my wife opened up a whole new can of worms when she bought me this thing! :laughing7:

Finding places to MD looks like it'll be the trickiest part, since I can't MD at state parks here. :dontknow:

Welcome and good luck. The Garrett machines are very good.Rook

Welcome from Florida you will find enough to up grade with that, just take the trash with you and fill the holes so we don't get a bad rep HH

Welcome and that wife is a keeper! Good luck hunting

Hey, from near Evansville, welcome to T-Net, what part of So. In. are you in?

Heyya, JunkShopFiddler. I'm in Scottsburg, about 30 min north of Louisville. I'm originally from Alabama, but the wife's family is from here, so we picked here to settle after I got out of the navy.

Hey Mr. Jk, back when I was driving for living I made regular deliveries to nursing homes in Scottsburg. The route went from Scottsburg, to Salem, to Mitchell, and then to Paoli and French Lick, Always enjoyed that ride, saw a lot of places to metal detect, but I always seemed to be outta' time.

Welcome to the hobby !!! Big warning though it can get very addicting !! The 150 should do fine for you as an intro detector. My first modern type machine 20 years or so ago was a Garrett TA100 and the first week with it I found a gold ring and it paid for itself. Hunting State Parks in Texas are illegal also. I hunt local parks and schools mostly but if you can get permission to hunt some private property you will have better luck. Just be courteous and leave places like you found them and you will be surprised at the folks that will let you hunt. Good luck and HH.

Welcome to the hobby Johnathan! I have and use an Ace 150. Its a very good stick for the price, and alot better than most folks realize.
I have found many, many good things with it. It will serve you quite well if you really learn it and learn what its telling you. Practice makes perfect. I still use mine often even though I have a GTI 1500!
PM me here if you have questions about it, im happy to help.
Happy hunting!:hello:
