Hey guys I live in Topsham Maine and am super excited to be detecting again after a 15 year hiatus. Just bought a T2 SE and I'm loving it for the short time I've had it. Beats the old one I had when I was 20. I've been researching the history of my area which was settled in the 1600s and also the many shipwrecks that took place on our extremely rocky coastline. Can't wait to really sink my teeth into some of these spots.

Hello and welcome.Sounds like you are in an excellent area for hunting.Good luck.HH.

Welcome Ahab8,

I am originally from Maine (Portland area) and detected many beaches in my younger years. I have family that live in Topsham, Bath, as well as Portland. There are many great detecting opportunities for you with a massive history to go along with your finds.

Hey fish1on,
Glad to meet you, it's great to hear from somebody who's familiar with my area. I live right on the Androscoggin River and you're right, the history is incredible here. Learning the history is almost as interesting as the detecting(but not quite :-) where do you live now? Do you ever make it back to this area? I have a good friend who's spent his life on the ocean and knows every nook and cranny of our coastline. Next summer I intend to spend lots of time in his boat checking those hard to get to spots. Thanks for welcoming me to the site

Thanks for welcoming me justdon! I absolutely love this site and seeing all the great stuff that people have found. Can't wait to share my future treasures. Thanks again

I finally settled down in Utah for now...been traveling all over with my wife and I both being in the Air force. I have not been back to Maine for a few years and miss the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Look forward to your posts and maybe some ocean pics.

Hey fish1on,
Here's a few pics of that mighty Atlantic for you to end your day with. Fort Popham is in one of them which is a section of beach I want to hit with my T2 SE. Good talking to you

Since you posted this in the Introductions Forum - and even though you have been a member for a while Ahab8 - I will still welcome you aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania (USA).

You probably have - but, if you haven't already - you might consider browsing Sub-Forums: Maine for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Thanks vpnavy. I joined up Tuesday and missed the whole introduction thing. Guess I was too excited to find out what one of my first dug items was with my new T2Se. Thanks again for the welcome. Btw: this was the item

Hey there smalltowngirl13,
Thanks for the welcome I'm super excited I found the site. Seems like an awesome group of like minded people

Holy cow....I have some memories of Popham beach that I cannot share on this site! LOL

Thanks for the pic, looks the same as it did back n 1985

Hey fish1on I'm glad i could stir up some old memories(I'm assuming they're good if they're from Popham) the only thing that's changed is a fair amount of beach erosion which is why I need to go check that place soon. Lots of history in that little area

Good memories for sure.

Are you researching the original Popham colony of the 1600's?

I have been, as well as the original settlement downriver from me at Pleasant Point in Topsham. The history in this area is pretty amazing. Pilgrims, Pirates and Indians just to name a few. I'm ready to start unearthing some of that history :-)
