How's it going? I'm Tom, living currently in Des Moines, just moved from South Dakota. I love jeepsurfing the Great Plains, mostly SD and northern Nebraska. I combine my treasure hunting with camping and back-country exploration, and try to get the most I can out of every glorious moment. I use modern site research methods combined with old-fashioned 'wingin' it'.
I primarily target native artifacts, but have some of everything in my collection. I'm also interested in OOPARTS (naturally), and am open minded to the newer theories presented currently, provided there is some evidence to stand the theories on.
My collecting began as a kid in Upper Michigan (up north, to locals), and continues through the next generation, as my oldest daughter has a Wrangler, and takes her boyfriend out on 'preservation campaigns' along the Big Sioux, where she herself dug her first piece.
I'm open to all correspondence, so please feel free to hit me up anytime!

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Iowa for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Thank you all! Glad to be here amongst proper folks. What do you all do in the "off-season"? I look at a lot of old maps, read old books, try not to go stir crazy waiting for spring. This coming week our temps are going up, so I will definitely be getting some field time in.
More for the fresh air and exercise than anything, but I wouldn't mind checking out some creek beds. Deer Creek off of Clanton Creek probably (Madison County, Ia.). Found a great piece there this past summer, and I'm hoping to work the banks a bit.
Anyhow, Books, maps, internet research, cleaning and shooting last season's scores, that's winter here. I've got 7 or 8 boxes of 1880's bottles that still need cleaned and docced in, random pieces that need cleaned up, ect. Instead, I will probably go to the Iowa Historical building and stare at mammoth bones. If you're ever in Des Moines, I highly recommend going there. It's awesome, and it's free.

Hello Tom and welcome from Alabama. I wish you happy hunting. Feel free to share your cool finds as well as the things that you learn.

Welcome to the forum.
