Greetings All-

Despite epic quantities of thirsty mosquitoes, I have continued my efforts to locate and detect colonial era sites. On Saturday I went to a new spot, and spent five hours exploring the woods along a local river. I found the usual assortment of lead and trash, but nothing of any real interest. Thankfully on the walk back to the car I lucked in to a couple of wheaties and a lovely 1940 half dollar.

Last night I returned to a colonial site I have hunted numerous times. Given how many times I have been over this spot, I was excited and surprised to come across a nice high tone that was directly beneath an old rotten stump.
After digging through and around the stump, I popped out a beautiful intact shoe buckle. I've never come across a buckle with such a nice design.

Thanks for taking a look. HH to everyone!

Walkers are hard to come by, in my experience...have only dug one.

I love the Walking half, as it is probably my favorite US coin. However, the shoe buckle takes the prize this time. Such a rush finding a complete and interesting 18th century relic. Congrats!

Awesome!!! Congrats!!! Beautiful Coin!!!

A complete shoe buckle is a rare find. At least it is around here. Congrats.

Yeah….you live in MASSACHUSETTS so technically speaking….ALL of your ground is “old”. You could find it just about anywhere there, as opposed to us poor saps living in places where getting into the 1800’s isn’t impossible but it’s not easy. A couple of very nice finds on that trip!

Nice going on the silver, but there's nothing more satisfying than the old beat site giving up a sweet relic like the buckle. Well done on both finds.

Congrats on your great finds!!

That is a really nice complete example of a shoe buckle - congrats!
