Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Got my Garrett Ace 250 today ,got really tired of the bounty hunter gold digger.. which lasted about 4-5 days... but the 250 picks up weird stuff and from my experience it cant discriminate worth a poo!!

I found 2 things today a 2 an half inch stick of some sorts thats metallic very light weight, an the ace 250 says its a $1 coin ?? weird.....

2nd thing being this lump of some kind of metal, i have no idea what either is.. the black stick was found 8 inches down in an area where a hotel had burned down in the late 1800s
and the lump of metal was found near an old blacksmith shop of the same time period. Neither will stick to a rare earth magnet.. The ace 250 also says the lump of metal is either 25 cent piece or a 50 cent piece... so what gives...... heres some pics..... the half dollar is a reference .... wish i could just find a coin..... also...sorry for the grammar....

Most probably melted lead. Don't go by the icon graphics on your detector - they are just there as a GUIDE  One dollar doesn't always mean one dollar, etc., etc., etc. Sounds like you're just starting out. My advice is to dig everything and learn your machine. Sounds like you had fun today...that's THE most important thing :icon_sunny:

Yeah i was thinking the same thing i am new to MDing and it took me some time to get on the wright path of finding thing like today some coin/clad and a old ax head. it relay does take time to learn your md i have a ace 150 and a bounty hunter T IV you will find stuff go to some tot lots find the sand or mulch ones the stuff it there and you will learn real quick what it what opp in all metal to get a good feel for it.

hope you start to find some stuff since i got my ace i have found 10 dollars and a few charms one with a small diamond that is real had it check out at a shop and it was in 10k dint give up on it once i find enough coin i am going to get a 350 from Garrett.

best regards,
Stan

Don't give up on the Ace 250! I have found that in the "coin mode" the 250 identifies well, in "all metal" and "jewelry" the icons are only a little help. However, dig everything sometimes you will get a very pleasant surprise. :)

I'm in my first month with my new A250 here too.. I've had the same issues. I was recently told to dig everything till you understand what the target ID is trying to tell you. Since, I have spent twice as much time digging than swinging the coil and I have had a couple of nice surprises. Sometimes when you get one of those "jumpy" trash signals it IS something you want.
Get your hands dirty! and HAPPY HUNTING!!!!

Don't get too discouraged with the two fitty. It will come around!!! I've had mine for a little over a year, and have found lots of cool stuff. I was a little disheartened at first myself. Try running it in either coin or jewelry mode with the sensitivity at 3 or 4 bars. That seems to work best for me. I guess the main thing is, you need to be where people have lost items. Location, Location, Location. Good luck and keep us posted on your finds, and welcome aboard. The pic below is most of my good finds except for the twelve pounds of clad. (too lazy to count it)

I've got an Ace 250 too, and have had it for a month.

On one hand, I am new at this, and feeling discouraged too. I am trying to work a trashy site with 4 billion nails. It is VERY discouraging.

On the other hand, I was very excited last night. I dug three dimes and a nickel in about 15 minutes, and the 250 nailed it exactly in coin mode. After digging a bunch of holes and considering selling the 250 for the first offer over $10 (LOL), I have renewed hope.

I think it is going to take us a while to learn these signals and our machines.
