New from Westwego La

can you be specific about which "laws" or legal issues you are referring to there? Eg.: what entity's land? City? County? State? federal? etc..... Assuming you meant something on the lower down level (city or county run lands), did you find something that said "no metal detectors", down at those levels? Or ...... what exactly was it, that made you think there was rules that said no metal detectors, at wherever it was you were thinking of going to?

I was researching on line when I came across a warning for md in La. Seems there is a state law that prohibits mding on public land, such as parks I read a couple of threads referring to the same thing. I was hoping to connect with an experienced hunter here in NOLA to get practical advice. I want to hunt some parks(city). I know state parks are off limits.

Well then there's your answer: whatever you read about La state parks, only applies to La state parks. If you didn't read anything while "researching on line" for city or county lands, well then .... it must be silent on the subject. No prohibitions. There's your answer :)

I guess I'm just being paranoid but this posting on line sort freaked me out. I am new, but this something I've always wanted to do. I'm from Colorado, born so close to the Rockies dreaming of mountain treasure and pans filled with gold.

Hello from New Hampshire! :hello:

Best advice I an give you is to call the local police department of the city or town in which you want to hunt. Ask if there are any laws pertaining to metal detecting on city/town properties (schools, parks, etc.). Do not ask permission to hunt, only ask if there are any laws. Get the name of the person you spoke with. If they say no specific laws, you are safe to hunt. Fill in all your holes and take your trash with you. Some places have no specific laws, but ask that you not detect in certain places. Don't get too specific about what you want to do (ie, "I promise to fill all my holes"...digging sends up a HUGE red flag) just ask if there are laws pertaining to MD. Hope this helps.

HH (Happy Hunting),
Anita
