Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to the metal detecting world. I recently moved down here from upstate NY. Now that I'm so close to a bunch of beaches, I'm looking to upgrade to a nicer detector. I'm a certified diver, and dive wrecks frequently. I also found the most killer shallow-water spot I could ever dream of finding. During the warmer months, thousands of rich boaters party inside this small cove. Its about chest deep at the deepest. I've snorkeled there a few times and found car keys, designer sunglasses, jewelry, and tons of other things. So needless to say, I'm looking for a good underwater detector to explore this area some more. I was hoping someone on here could steer me in the right direction. Any recommendations?? Looking to spend under $1,000

welcome, sounds dang good! ive got an excal ll, little over 1300 new or a good used one can be found for way less than a 1000, good luck diving and post some finds on the beach shallow water forum

Welcome to Treasurenet! The Minelab Excalibur II is the weapon of choice for most water hunters. If you have to stay under $1000, then you might look into the Garrett SeaHunter. The main advantage of the Excal II is the discrimination capabilities. If you are going to dive with your detector in Florida, you need to check with the guys on the Beach and Shallow Water forum to be sure you know the rules. Some underwater areas are leased and off limits to anyone not on the lease.

Check out the reviews for the Minelab Excalibur II. It runs about $1,350 new, but you might be able to find a used one for under a grand. I bought mine after watching it perform underwater on youtube videos. As soon as I get re-certified I plan on taking it diving.

and thanks everyone so far for the recommendations. i'll keep an eye out for a killer deal!

So i picked up a Minelab Excalibur II tonight. I've been watching craigslist for a long time and haven't found anything decent. Sure enough, a guy listed one last night. So i bought it today!!! cant wait to go out and try her out

HI, I'm new and just up the coast from you. I'm a certified diver with a little experience, and am interested in underwater treasure hunting.

Hey Smalls, the Excalibur 2 is a good one, and a new one with extras cost about $1500.00
Unfortunately, you have moved to Florida at a time when the State of Florida is about to vote in October to stop all treasure hunting within 500 yards from water and dive sites. You can thank the Archaeologist for this selfish act. All of Florida's ocean beaches will soon be off limits from Oct on. This really sucks man.
The companies who sell metal detectors are going to take a big hit here because not only will these be off limits' many if not all federal lands all over the USA are now off limits due to the Archaeologist request. All and all, there are still many private properties and town parks and Schools to hunt on. Good luck Smalls.

Welcome aboard:hello:Looks like we need strong/stronger lobbyists working for us.
