All Treasure Hunting
Hi there all.
I live in Serbia, and think this site is brilliant.
Had my first day detecting yesterday with a Surfmaster P.I. (plus)

Lessons learned yesterday.

Take a better shovel. (mine broke after 3 hours)
Tie eyeglasses to string. (I lost mine )
Take enough water to drink. (had a bit of heatstroke after a while)
Think carefully about a bicycle as transport. (had a puncture and my wife had to come rescue me with the car)

BUT....
I did find a useless metal ring probably from a tractor. :)
Though my wife does have a different view on all of the above.

Onwards...to treasure!

Sounds like you had a good time anyway. Welcome to tnet.

Weed,
You type very good english for Serbian! What part/town of Serbia are you from?
Traveled there a few times and had fits wanting to stop and detect along the Sava and Danube! (Wasn't a very friendly place to my flag 10-15 years ago...)
Can only imagine the wealth of great treasures you are likely to find along those rivers. Many thousands of years those have been major paths taken east to west- man I'm Jealous!!!
Sure to find some great stuff!
Good Luck!

Weed, with your language skills and your sense of humor, I know I for one will be looking for your posts!

Cheers to everyone here for the warm welcome. I am NOT actually Serbian though my wife and two small children are. I am from Scotland. Glasgow to be precise.Serbia has an amazingly long and diverse history....there hasn't been enough money available to invest in excavation and preservation of historic sites and there are a huge number of covered over locations that were deemed to expensive to excavate once discovered. The same situation exists in Hungary (I lived there for 20+ years) regarding antiquity preservation and conservation.

Weed,
I know exactly what you are talking about! If its not far from you- I recall a small excavation where a roman hord was found and looked deserted after a while- (not meaning go to the excavation site- but check around that general area) In Eastern Croatia at Zupanja- about 200-400 meters West of the overpass where the M-1(M70/A3) meet the Zupanja Road D55- I recall some very nice items recovered here but no idea what's happened in the last 10 years. Also- the castle ruins at Srebrenica-between Zupanja and Tuzla in Bosnia- man, I quivered everytime I drove by there thinking about all the Trukish and Roman goodies around that hill and the base of the cliffs! Tell me when- I'll met you there!!!
Good luck!
