New from Louisiana

Hello. I am not new to the forum. Well, I guess I am. I signed up around 5 years ago when I really wanted to get into detecting but things here and there always got in the way of me buying a detector. Well, I finally bit the bullet last night and ordered a Nokta Makro Simplex + WHP. I hope I made a good choice.

I live in Gonzales Louisiana, also known as The Jambalaya Capital of the World, a small city right outside of Baton Rouge toward New Orleans. I am a tad overwhelmed by the prospect of detecting and am hoping I can find some local folks to give me guidance. I hope as well to learn a lot here. Anyway, it is great to finally be able to post as a detectorist and hope to make friends along the way.

I hear good things about the Simplex Plus. Don't be overwhelmed. Read everything that came with it and online. Hunt your own property first. When you have a clean patch of ground, either make a "test garden" or just bury some coins at different depths (put a marker like a plastic poker chip on the surface). You will be tempted to hit old house sites first, but try something easier like a farm field or beach to master your new machine. And good luck!
