I'm 41 & recently got the treasure hunting bug & figured detecting would be a good starting off point (my real intrust is in some cache hunting but you got to start somewhere right?) The Reno brothers cache (if it exists or still exists) is what I want to search for in the near future. I've been browsing this site/fourm the past few weeks for info on equipment & what not.
I've never seen gold diggers or whatever the TV show is called, I just have always had some explorer in me & when I was about 10 years old (1980ish) I got a used cheap detector from my grandpa (a garage sale find I imagine). Anyway as a kid I had about a weeks worth of patience for it & never touched it much after that. I don't even remember what became of that detector but I did find things with it.
Now I'm getting back into it with 30 years of life experience behind me & much much more patience. Really considering either a new MXT by Whites or possibly even the Garrett AT Pro. I missed out on 2 different used Whites M6's on CL & almost decided to buy a brand new M6. Now I just feel why not spend a little more & get the even better MXT, I don't see a reason to spend even more for the MXT Pro & instead use the savings on a second DD coil for the regular MXT! I have also considered a Minelab detector but in the end I know it comes down to how well you learn YOUR detector & that's what makes you a better finder. Kind of like motorcycle track riding, a bigger bike wont make you automatically faster, as a more experienced rider on a smaller bike will always lay waste to an inexperienced rider on a bigger bike!
My main hunting will be in south central Indiana (from Indianapolis to southern Indiana) in all types of lots, yards, woods, old home sites or even ghost towns, also near streams, creeks & rivers. No saltwater here, & not a ton of mineralization in the soil here either. oh & of course mid west ghost towns are not buildings or even any structures or anything except possibly the remnants of very old foundations where a town use to be in the 1800's to early 1900's. Oh also I'm more so after jewelery, coins, gold, silver & not so much after relics but I wont turn em down if I find em either! I also like to kayak alot so having a water proof machine might be a smart move so that I can take it with me & hit some hard to reach ground that looks good.
So again HELLO from Indy & I look forward to posting & gathering info on this site for & from all the members!
