Went out on the weekend in the rain, and found a whole shwack of pennies and modern coins, as well as my first loonie! No complaints with a pocket full o' change! I also found a pocket knife. Today I had a few hours before work, so I went down to the beach where I found 3 or 4 pennies, and a nickel. Then for the highlight of the day I found my first ring! I am not sure if it silver or not, it is not magnetic, but it also is not marked. It has a nice design around the outside and I think it is cool, made my day! Any ideas as to how I can establish if it is silver or not would be great! DSC01568.JPGDSC01567.JPGDSC01566.JPGDSC01565.JPGDSC01564.JPG

Looks real to me !!! Congrats on your silver ring, knife, and the pocket full of change.

Awesome job with the loonie, I found a toonie earlier this year. Never found a knife (there's always a first). Nice looking ring too.

Nice ring and knife! any jeweler, pawn shop or coin shop can test it.

Nice design on the ring, looks like silver. Let us know.

If you have a good loupe or microscope, look at the edges of the ring for wear. If it is plated, that's where the plating would be coming off. Even if it is plated, it could still be silver! I once found a plated ring and was bummed that it was peeling, yet it was marked 925. Turns out that for awhile (1970's?) they were plating silver with rhodium.

A better way to tell if it is silver is by doing a specific gravity test to find the density. There should be previous discussions about that on this site, and you can investigate the web for more details on how to do that. I like density testing because all you do is get the object wet-- there's no damage involved. Silver has a density of about 11.5. If your ring has a density of 10 or less it is brass or some other alloy.

great finds. the ring looks old

I had the ring tested today, and it is indeed silver, but not worth too much for scrap silverweight, but I like it anyway, and hopefully is the start of many more to come!

Rings are so exciting, congrats on a cool find.
