I was able to go to my favorite field and walk about half of it. This field is huge! I was lucky enough to find a few points and tools. On the left of the pic is a hammerstone and 3 flint celts. The point in the top row has some nice serrations with a sharp tip. There are a couple of scrapers in the middle row. The third row has a point made of Ft. Payne (Not sure of the type). Right beside it, I have a very small arrow point that I found peeking out from under a clod of dirt. I also found a piece of broken hardstone which had me a little excited because I don't find many hardstone tools in this field. The second pic shows the three best points out of the group. I've got to get out there and walk the other half of the field!

Thanks for looking.

Woooooo nice day adena. Looks like you're on a sweet site. I hope it produces some hardstone for you. Makes you wonder what that broken piece was... maybe a flare bit celt... :). I love that black point you found as well. We don't get much black material up here.

Best of luck bud.

Thanks Johnny X! I'd love to find a nice grooved axe like the one you found in your field!

Good luck!

StevenX Hey Johnny,
I wonder about that pc. of hardstone too.I never thought about a flare bit celt.I have found two just like itI thought for along time it was part of [ wishfully] a bannerstoneI,ll have to dig them out and take some pics.Brian has a great site for sure.

Does your hardstone piece have a bit like a celt would? If so I am pretty sure it is a chisel. I have a whole one i just need to find it. They are pretty uncommon and you will find a LOT of celts before you ever find a chisel.
Nice!!

Very very cool! :)

Thanks Airborne! My legs were starting to get a little heavy at the halfway mark of the field. Man, I've got to get into better shape! My wife says its because I'm almost 42. I told her I'd be walking fields at 82 if I possible can!

Good luck!

Hey Chuck! Yes it does. It has a really nice bit end to it. It is well-polished also. I was wondering what it was when I picked it up. I knew it was way too small to be a normal celt. If only I could have found it whole.... There's got to be more hardstone in there somewhere!

Good luck!

Hey Chuck, here are some pics of the broken hardstone. The pics didn't turn out as good as I would have liked.

Very nice! I love that southern Ohio stuff. I particularly like the flint celts, I haven't found one yet.

Thanks Unitas! I like finding flint celts also. This field has produced quite a few of them over the years. You'll find one soon!

Good luck!
