We had two really strong storms move through our area on Tuesday that really put down some torrential rainfall, so I decided to head out at first light this morning. I got to the field around 6 am and hunted until around noon and did really well. The field had just been planted on Sunday and the rain had washed the ground down flat and there were things exposed everywhere. I ended up finding 5 Beads, 4 Bone and 1 nice Shell Tube, 9 Points, a Hafted Scraper, a broken Drill, a nice Flint Chisel with a highly polished end, a piece of cut and worked Deer Antler, a broken Discoidal that was drilled in the center, a nice Stone Hoe, and 3 broken Celts, 2 blade pieces and 1 poll end.

I started out on the Ft Ancient village which is where the Triangles Points, the Chisel, the Deer Antler, and the Beads all came from. I then moved out to the Archaic ridges and found the rest. If I hadn't have been so worn out from working a 12 hour shift before hunting I probably would have stayed a little longer.

1st picture is the days finds.

2nd picture is the finds from the Ft Ancient village.

3rd picture is one of the Bone Beads that has two lines engraved on it.

4th picture is of the hole through the Shell Tube Bead.

5th picture is a view of the polished end of the Flint Chisel.

6th is the finds from the Archaic ridge.

7th and 8th pictures are of the Stone Hoe.

That looks like fun. What is the large stone hoe made of? How long and wide is it. I really like large artifacts.

Thanks Steve. We call it Ironstone, but I'm not sure of the actual name of the stone. It's a little over 5 inches long and around 3 inches wide. I have quite a few of these, but this is the first one I have found in quite some time.

Here's a picture of my other Stone Hoes. They are always made from the same material.

Nice beads you Dork. Really like the shell tube. You sure can't beat a good hoe! Should be plenty left for us in the morning.Give me a call when you are ready to go.

I bet he posted and is snoozing the night away by now dreaming of ancient caches. What a good day on your sites. Nice hoe and glad it did not have any plow marks on it. I think you can retire with just those two sites alone.
Nice finds and pictures as always

nice finds steve,i went to my good bifurcate site this morning and someone planted a house there last winter, another one gone for good

great finds!

Thanks guys.

TN, I always dream of ancient caches. lol

Jeff, sorry to hear that. I know how that feels. I lost a great site for serrated points because someone put apartments on the site. The bad thing is, if they had just pu t the buildings right on the site we could looked while they were being built, but the brought in about 5 feet of fill dirt and completely covered the site so it's gone forever now.

paleojoe and I were going back up this morning, but it's pouring the rain right now and we don't want to walk around in the slop plus it might tick the farmer off since it's already planted and nothings coming up yet. We'll wait until it stops raining.

Nice dork. I really like the Hoe. Could we see an upclose of all of your hoes? When I used to walk up in Preble co. I would find a lot of them made of slate. They were made in the exact same manner. Cool stuff.
