New errors I found yesterday

1972-D Half...Extra tail feather

1971-D Half...Double die on lips and jaw

1969-D Half...Double die reverse

1971-D Half...Who knows what!? If anyone has seen this before, or knows what it is, I'm all ears!

1969-D Nick...My guess is this is a man made error, not a mint error any comments on this one would help as well.

Overall I hope some of these are good errors and might be worth a nice amount.

The last one has the numbers punched in, it is post mint and worth face value. I can't see an error in the 1971 half.

The "doubled dies" not double are machine doubling. Not true doubling. No added value.

I hate sounding ignorant, but how can you tell, and what is the difference? I'm pretty new to this and Don't really know what I'm looking for.

True doubling will be on the same level as the design as the doubling is a part of the die. Machine doubling is due to a shift in the die at impact, causing a sliding effect. The easier way to diagnose it is this way. If you visually remove the doubling the design will look normal on a true DD. With MD it will take away from the design.

Thanks, that's good info. So what would you say is a good thing to look for? Should I be saving things that you can see with a naked eye?

Not necessarily. You should get a jewelers loupe and some research on doubled dies to start.

Your 71 Kennedy looks different. I've never seen anything like that!

That's a pricy loupe. I'm guessing it's a better quality than the one I got and was giving me headaches. Worth the money, I guess

I've got 3 halves in my pocket (two 71s and a 74) and Kennedy's head is over the lettering on all of them. Pretty sure that's the design.
