With frozen soil covered with snow i went to my shop to make a new diggin shovel. I have made similar ones before for hunting buddies and with that experience i modded this one a little. The handle is a tad longer to save my back, handle made a little thicker to prevent bending and more and smaller teeth to cut through roots. I also added a hook to attach it to my belt when hunting fields with sparse signals... :tongue3: Cost me 2 hours of my time and some surplus stainless steel. I think to powdercoat it black too. What do You think?

That is a awesome homemade digger. Definitely better than store bought. Great job. Let us know how it works out.

How much????

Jonnie

Close to 2 hours including time for the template and some scrap metal. If i would sell them, it would translate to around 50 bucks because of the cost of stainless steel...

If it wasn't for the shipping I'd definitely take one for US $50. Surely many EU detectorists would feel the same. I think there's an opportunity there but your other priorities may not let you take advantage of it.

Good luck and thanks for sharing with us.

Looks like Predator Tools.com better watch out.

very nice...love the clip idea. You could hook it to a backpack for long walkins :hello2: nice job

That is a very well made digger and gorgeous to boot! How much does it weigh? What's the thickness of the outer wall?

Shaft is about .100/ 2.5mm wall, t-handle is a bit less, 2mm. Weight is 2lbs. If You pry a stone out of the way You possibly bend it. Rectangular tube welded in diagonal would manage that better, but it works well in most cases. It is a digger and not a pry bar.

Killer tool! When I get back to Ramstein ,I will buy one from ya. :icon_thumright:

Man, that sounds perfect. Don't need a pry bar (in normal circumstances) anyway. Once again, great job!!! :icon_thumright:

Thanks! Hope to see You in person and bring some time for a hunt!

Wow! And I was hoping you were here in the states :'( I need a digger like that as I'm a little taller than most folks(6 ft, 5 in). Let me know if you get back stateside.

Westfront, man you love to work.... :tongue3: Building things and then digging stuff up

I on the other hand look for less work, so I'd go with the good old fashioned jackhammer :laughing7:

Hi Spart! :hello: The jackhammer is exactly what we need in the moment here... And Yes! Love to work with metal. When off work i look for more metal out in the fields... Here are some pics of a powder coated one.

Westfront, beside the nice work, it's good to see you again too.

I'm curious, any more stories strange occurrences from some of the fields you hunt :dontknow: I remember you dog getting spooked too, and that was at least 2 years ago :laughing7:
