new detector selection

not sure about that one mike. the safest advise i can give you is stick with the big names when looking for a detector, fisher, whites, garrett, ect. im not saying theres not any good non big name detectors out there but you cant go wrong with the big names.

I have never used one. Unfortunately, very little publicity? has been put forward about this detector.

This detector is usually discussed only on advanced users sites. As it is high end , I would be surprised if very many newbies have ever heard of it.The Cointrax 11 chip was designed by George Payne..(If you don't know who George Payne is you have a lot to learn). I have seen the reviews of this detector by extreme advanced users. It? would be on my list for a new high end VLF. Take a close look as this may be the latest and best VLF technology.

You have seen this?

;D Thanks! Great link. I have added it to my favorites so that I can keep up with the developments in the Discovery line of detectors. I have been trying to decide between Whites and Fisher. Had almost decided on Fisher because of their claim to work in all soils including salt water beaches. But now, just maybe I will have to reconsider again. In any event by the time I get the money saved I am sure that they will have made even more improvements to an already great product. It will be interesting to see how these machines impact the industry and our hobby.

I have a Cobra II which I've modified. It's basically like a Baron Pro hunter setup & it gets some truly scary depth in really heavily mineralized soil. I've tested it side to side (8" coil) with a GTI 1500 (9.5" & 12.5"), Sov. XS-2 Pro (&.5", 10", WOT), Garrett Infinium (PI), with in ground targets & the only detector that beats it is the Infinium. ..Willy.

Treasure Barons

Hi Mike.? I host the Baron Page on my website, have been using Treasure Barons for years and along with Reggie Sniff did the field testing of the new Cointrax II chip.? ?They are exceptional detectors, they have excellent depth on all targets and also excellent sensitivity to small, low conductive targets.? I've had or hunted alongside of? most of the top end detectors, compared the performance of the Barons to them and in the mild ground here the only one that had an edge in depth on inground targets was the Nautilus DMC IIb, and it was a slight edge.? If you've been to the Baron page and read all the info you probably got the idea the Cointrax isn't the easiest detector to use, or rather setup to use.? It's not.? It can be complicated to program until you do it a few times, but it can be programmed for any type hunting except underwater. I have no connection to Discovery, I tested the Cointrax II chip for George Payne before Discovery decided to buy the chips from him and I put the Baron Page up because a few other users asked me to put a page up dedicated to the Barons.? I am not trying to sell Treasure Barons, but they are excellent detectors.

:) Thanks JB! I hope this does not sound like a strange question but would you say that a machine being advertised as the "Millennium II with cointrax module" (KellyCo website) sounds like the same thing as a " Millennium coin trax II"? Which Is how I actually worded it when I had a queston about it for KellyCo. They e-mailed me back and said that it was not one they carried. ??? I am still trying to clear it up with them. I just want to make sure that the latest available machine(whatever it's called) is complete in itself and I will not have to buy an extra module for salt water beaches. Have you had the opportunity to test your unit on wet salt beaches yet? Sorry to be so confusing, but if you could add some insight on this detail I would appreciate it. thanks again, MikeH

The older metal cased Barons were modular, meaning they would accept the user changeable Goldtrax, Cointrax and Prohunter front modules and the Black Sand, Nicad and Deephunter rear modules.? They had a base circuit board that controlled the audio output and a couple of other functions, as did the first Millennium.? The first Millennium Baron, it has the lightweight plastic type housing, came with the Cointrax Module installed and although it wasn't designed to be interchangeable the other modules could be put in it.? The Millennium Cointrax II does not accept any of the other modules and all the components are on one board.? The older Barons had dual tone audio, which many prefer and is the reason so many are trying to locate one, while the Millennium Cointrax II has single tone.? Regardless of whether it's one of the older Barons with the Cointrax II chip installed or the new Millennium Cointrax II the performance is the same. The only new Millennium Cointrax II units being sold by anyone are the single tone 2005 models amd Kellyco, A&S and Mr. Bill at surfscanner.com? are currently the only dealers I'm aware of.? The ones Kellyco sell are identical to the ones Mr Bill and A&S? sell.? Hopefully I didn't confuse the issue farther :).

:) JB- Is there any chance that the dual tone feature so popular on the older models will be restored on future versions? Thanks.

Mike, as far as I know Discovery has no plans to add a second audio tone to the Cointrax II.? Check your private messages for more info.

I bought a used Cobra II, which appears to be in good condition.
Do you have an instruction manual that I could buy? Hard copy or PDF is fine.
Appreciate the help.
