I am headed out first thing tomorrow morning to hit two new sites and to give the old BH one last chance to keep up with my new Garrett. I am hitting a school yard that is in an area dating back to at least 1884 as a resort community, and I am going to do the best I can with a bulldozed area where they are about to build yet another shopping mall. And only five miles away from another mall...are there ever enough? At least the digging should be easy and I won't have to worry about filling in my holes at the mall const site. I'll post all finds tomorrow. Wish me luck! actually wish my buddy Dustin luck...he's the one who's gonna be tryin to keep up with Ye Olde Bounty Hunter.

P.S. not tryin to break out another debate over whether aces or BHs are any good. The BH just hasn't worked for me in my area.

update:
I got WAAAAAY sidetracked and didn't end up going anywhere I planned. I found an 1845 church site that was for the English settlers who were here at the time. There was a grave yard that went from present back to 1825 and some I couldn't even make out the date on anymore. Some of the head stones were toppled and broken and a small group of them were fenced off. Funny though, all of the men buried there had the masonic logo on their headstones. Some of the headstones weren't marked with a date at all, one just had an underlined name "Feivel". The whole place was kinda spooky, barely off the road in between two diff roads but definitely out of view. I kept feeling like someone was watching me and the there were so many head stones tossed about I wasn't sure if they were over the bodies anymore or if they were just tossed aside at some point. Not sure I'd feel comfy MDing there since I don't know for sure where the graves are but it doesn't matter, I was alone and I got spooked off.
I headed down the road and found a total of 4 abandoned houses that looked old to me. But there was so much trash that it literally was harder to find a spot with no signal. Not even worth trying to me...the walkways and other areas were the same way. It's a shame.
Then I headed back into some woods where I know there is the remnants of a coal mine dating back to 1701. I found slag all over the place again, found one piece this time half the size of a VW beetle. (not exaggerating!) Bricks still strewn about, and almost no trash at all. Problem is you can't take 2 steps without getting an iron signal. How am I supposed to know what to skip over? I don't know anything about coal mine setup or layout so I may have to try to see if there are still records of where things were. OR, find a partner who is a little better at putting puzzles together to come up with a plan of attack. I was still by myself and I was getting antsy so I didn't bother digging anything I just did some reconnaissance and found bricks, slag, coal, pottery, part of a chimney or something, maybe a stove for the coal. and parts of a structure, but I can't tell what it was. DEF man made though. If anyone is gonna be in Richmond and wants to come along and take a look let me know. We can head out and maybe you'll have some better ideas. There are just so many signals I don't think I'll ever end up digging it alone.

what do you do when there are iron signals around every step. Turn up the discrimination?
