As I understand, the Coinmaster is an entry level detector so I'm not expecting perfection. However I do have some questions for all you Coinmaster users:

- when detecting I often get a hit or two from an area but then when I go back and run the coil over the same spot, the detector won't beep again...this happens A LOT. Is this because the object is trash? Too deep? Is the detector not strong enough?

- when hunting for old relics, what metals should be discriminated? I've read that many do iron and foil (standard setting on the Coinmaster). I've also read that some keep the detector wide open and dig EVERYTHING! What is a good balance?

- lately a lot of my digging has been done in old fields....the Coinmaster almost always tells me the items are 4-6+ inches deep. Is this typical for field? I assume it's normal since any item has been plowed and dug for centuries.

- why are my plugs so big?! Sometimes my coil is directly over and item but I can't find an item for the life of me. Can someone explain the pinpointing feature a bit better to me?

I know there's a lot to answer here so I am grateful for any advice!

Thanks to all!

some time the target makes a better halo in the ground and when you dig you mess with it and now your detector knocks it out in the discrimination mode. did you practice pin pointing with a quarter. put it a bout two inch in the ground with some then non metalick above it to mark it, and practice pin pointing over it. all metal when detecting relics your screen should still tell what it is...the beep on every target can get annoying and you have tone I.D. The dept gauge only works on coin size targets if it's bigger it will be deeper so keep digging. if your down say six inches and it still beep over the hole keep digging. do you have a pin pointer they help out a lot the bigger the target the farther away the pin pointer will find it...I hope that helps you out you have a good detector there be safe and have fun out their.

I just got my Coinmaster Pro. If you are getting a hit from one direction and not the other, try checking the spot from a different angle. Sometimes I have to walk a complete circle around the object before I get a repeatable hit. The key is the repeatable hit from the left and right. If you only getting one, it comes up junk for me.

Maybe. Maybe & Maybe. Could also be electromagnetic interference (emi) from say power lines , cell phones or any other device that may send off an electronic signal. You can try turning the sensitivity down a bit. Generally, if it doen't have a repeatable tone/beep just move on the next target. All detectors I've used including the high end ones give off "phantom beeps" from time to time. Just move along.

Depends on what type of relics you're searching for. If you're ONLY looking for brass and copper items, feel free to turn up the disc. Iron tools and the like, turn your disc down to accept EVERYTHING. Dig it all. Prepare to dig often!

Typical? Probably/Maybe. But by the same token, being plowed and dug for centuries it can also bring the the goodies to the top. Luck of the draw!

Again I'm making an assumption that you are using the stock 9" Spider coil. When you are in the pinpoint mode and you have a solid steady signal, your target is going to be somewhere in that 3-4" center circle. Dig an plug a bit larger than the inner circle of your coil. You can narrow the target down even further by staying in pinpoint & slowly dragging the coil back till the tone just stops. Now move your coil forward again to get tone and do the same thing left/right. It'll take some practice but you should be able to narrow it right down to the size of the target.

Thanks to all!
You're welcome. I hope it helps.
