Just got my Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph 7.1 MP / 3x Zoom a couple of weeks ago...love it!! And I really like the MACRO feature for extremely close ups....click on my website under my profile and check out the Pipscio 2nd hunt...you will see the MACRO pics of coins and relics.

I'm a Canon fan...and won't buy any other....I've owned several..but since hubby broke my last one ( >:()...ok..it was an accident...

I got this one at BJ's Wholesale Club for $188...before taxes. Target, Walmart, etc...they sell it for anywhere from 198 to 250...from an internet search I did to find the best price for the camera I wanted!

See if you can find a Sony T series camera with magnifying glass mode
They are small, compact and easy to use.
With magnifying glass mode you can get right up to an object if you want for very detailed macros

I use the Sony DSC-T200, http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07082101sonyt200t70.asp but at $399,
it may not be in the price range you were looking for. Try looking at some of the other T series models,
some of the older ones have sold online for quite cheap.
Email me if you want to see other close ups or have questions.

Pretty much any digital camera with a macro setting will do the trick. Brand wise it's your choice. Find one you like and can afford and check out some reviews to see what other people think about it good or bad. Good Luck.
