A couple of guys over at geotech.com have released a new book about metal detector technologies: Inside the Metal Detector. I encourage people who have a technical background and have an interest in MD technology to read this book! I am halfway through it, and already have learned 3 times what I knew before. It even shows you in great detail how to build your own detectors! You can read all about it HERE.

ISBN 978-0-9858342-0-3

And I believe one of the authors works for White's...

Yea, I dont think that is right. I have already read in the book that he does not believe they work and that they are a fraud. That chapter is to warn people away, not to promote LRL's...

And here is how it was presented at the link I posted:

Why Dowsing "Works"

Notice the quotation marks?

Sorry for the double post there, not sure how that happened.

Well i know all i need to know about metal detecting.......... I have been in it for 40 years......... And what has always worked for me was.......... If my detector beeps i dig....... And with out reading all these books ....I would dig and something would be there..............

Unclematt, building a detector actually sounds like fun either way, by kit, or from scratch. :icon_thumright:

I may even try it at some point and if they work, I'll slap a SPART label and start selling those bad boys like silly on here :headbang: :laughing7:

Not for me why spend my time making one when i can buy a good one .............. The same thing with fishing why spend all that money on equipment when i can go to the fish market and buy fresh fish.............

And just to be clear on this point, the chapter on LRL's is totally against them in every way! This book in no way suggests LRL are for real or work, it does just the opposite. I am about 2/3rdsthrough it now, and have already learned a lot that will help improve my abilities in the field.

Understanding how things work and are designed always give me more proficiency. For example, I learned to detect the smallest particles of gold possible you need a VL frequency machine, not a VLF frequency machine...

Heck Spart , just build us some decently priced & tough pinpointers . I'd be happy with that ......
