New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Hiya everyone,
Tried a new beach near me on Monday and here are a few photos to show what i found.
Well i hate to say it but YES.!!! I found YET ANOTHER RING.!!! But this one is ONLY a cheapie enamaled Toe ring, but it's another to add to my first 2 Silver ones anyway.

This New beach certainly had a surprise in store for me because i didn't think this beach was very old, Being at the edge of a fairly new residential area. But it was nice and quiet and looked like a fun place to kill a few hours.
Right in the middle of the beach was what looked like an old Concrete Bunker, the sort you get along coast lines as defence bunkers, but i'm not too sure about that.???
I didn't think much of it till i got to it and started to hunt around it.
I started to get some good signals so i started to dig. Within and inch of the surface, up came a BULLET.!!! I couldn't believe it.!!! then came another, and another etc etc. There were even 2 that were on the surface too so i didn't even have to dig those.
I found 9 altogether but i'm sure there are more to be found there. Most of them were in very good shape but some were quished up so badly i didn't bother to keep those ones.
Maybe someone can help me to identify what type of bullet ther are.?????????
They are 2 1/4" long, 1/4" thick, round tips rather than pointed and seem to be hollow. Don't think they are made of Lead, posibly copper or brass.???? Any ideas or answers would be helpfull.

While i was hunting, a nice old couple came up to me and asked me a hundred and one questions about what i was up to and and what finds i'd made. It turns out they are from Perth in Australia and the lady said she had wanted a MD for ages and that after her chat with me, it had fueled her interest again. She also told me that where she lives is a VERY good place to find GOLD NUGGETS. So i gave them some advice on doing research to find the best machine for them and then they went on thier way. Hopefully I may have encouraged some new people into this great hobby.?? you never know.!!!

I also found 2 old coins. Both were 1 Peseta coins. One had a date 1975 but the coin is in quite bad condition with a few chunks taken out of it, but my best coin was another 1 Peseta coin in real good condition and it is dated 1944. it has cleaned up really well too.
I have found out a little bit of this coins history. It is a Copper/Nickle coin only struck for one year in 1944 just after the Spanish Civil war ended in 1938 while Franco was in power. However, Franco was the leader in Spain from 1936 to 1975. The agreement was upon his death, Spain would go back to the Monarchy. The first king to ascend to the throne was Julian Carlos 1st, still ruler up to now. Which ties in with the first coin i found which was 1975 and had the first kings bust on the back. Quite a coincidence in finding 2 coins that share the same time in history. See the photos below.

I also found ?3.30 in change,
2 different earings ( Cheapies )
a Large Lead Sinker Complete with swivels
and what looks like a copper/nickle badge of Donald Duck Minus his Head.???
Also found a Plastic Soldier too.!!! Don't know how that happened either.????????????
There is also a large chunk of silver coloured metal which i have no idea what it is. It's not heavy enough to be Lead but it seems to light to be Silver. Any ideas.?????

Anyway Thanks for reading this post and hope you like the photos.
All the very best wishes to you all and Happy hunting too.
Ray.
P.S.
Am going back to see what else i can find later Today. Will keep you all posted.
Byeee.

Congrats on the great finds! Vern

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

I'm not sure where you are, but those long skinny bullets look like 6.5 mm, a common caliber bullet for several countries armed forces back in the turn of the century until about the 1950s. I have a collection of old military rifles and have several in 6.5 mm made in the early 1900s and shoot them in matches. Great beach finds! Monty

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Hiya Monty,
Thanks for your reply to my question about I.D.ing the bullets i found on a beach near me.
They ARE indeed 6.5mm bullets and about 1 1/4" in length.
I live in Tenerife which is one of the Canary island, just off the NW coast of Morroco/N.Africa. The islands are under Spanish Rule now.
I have done some research on the Net and have come up with an approximation for the date of the Bullets.
General Franco invaded the Canary Islands during the Spanish Civil war, which he instigated.
He invaded Tenerife in July 1936 which would fit in nicely with your theory of the Firearms used by European Armed Forces up to 1950ish.
The Spanish Civil war lasted nearly 3 years from 1936 to 1939.
Franco Died in 1975, and Spain went back to the Monachy the same year.

I also found a coin dated 1944, which was only struck for one year after the Civil war. It all ties in nicely now eh.???

Anyway Monty, Thanks for your info and i hope My little history lesson wasn't too boring for you.???

All the very best wishes to you and happy hunting too.
Your friend,
Ray.

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Hiya all,
Well with the help of MONTY ( Jim )
I have been able to do some more research on these bullets that i found.
The photos show the likely Riffle that shot them and also what the bullets looked like before they spent YEARS in the ground.
Just thought i'd post these in case anyone likes a bit of a history lesson.???
The riffle dates from 1891 to about the end of the 1950's. i've manged to identify the dates and models of the riffles using a cross reference from when the riffles were used in certain battles and also from the history of the Spanish Civil war ( 1936-1939 ) and have an approximate date of JULY 1936 when these bullets could have last been seen and fired. Just an approximate dating though. But i think it's close enough.
By the way, this is the same type of riffle that Lee Harvey Oswald supposedly shot JFK with too.

SO, A HUGE big thank you to MONTY for all your help. Cheers.!!
All the best to you all and happy hunting.
Ray.

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Great Job!!! Are there any value to those carcano rounds along with the clips ?? I have found several of these in a storage facility dumpster near a military base, HH Art...

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Unfortunately 6.5 Carcano ammo can still be had and I think there is still a little surplus around. Unless it had a unique head stamp needed by some collector it isn't worth much. Monty

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

:o ;D Hey KING
Those R really nice finds. Save some for the rest of us.. :'(..LOL
Good job & HH
Ray

Re: New Beach, New surprises & yet ANOTHER ring + Pics.

Hiya All,
As Monty said i don't think there would be a great value on the Ammo but from the history side of things, it's great to hunt down all the info with only a few shot bullets and some good help from a man that can. !!!
Thanks again Jim.
All the best,
Ray.
P.S.
If they are live rounds you know of, then treat them with great care.!!!
Happy hunting all.!!
