Stopped by a small branch not far from home. I don't have an account with them but asked if they had any half dollars.

The well dressed guy there said he would look. While he was looking for them he asked what I was looking for. I explained I was looking for key dates and rattled off the dates I was looking for.

He proceeded to help me look through all of the halves he had. WOW, I thought.

I mentioned about a box I just went thought and he said if I opened an account he could have a standing order for 2 boxes a week. Again,WOW.

He asked if I was looking for anything else and I said quarters or dimes with no copper banding on the edges. He again brought over the tray and we looked through the loose coin.

He was very excited to help. I also found out he is the manager and vp of the branch.

I'm going back tomorrow to open an account and browes through the loose change. This bank is going to be #1 for sourcing halves and others.

A bonus is the other bank I use gets their money from the northern part of the state while this gets theirs from the eastern side.

Wish me luck!

I wish all tellers\managers were like that :-\. Hope it works out for you!!

Well opened the account today. 2 more boxes coming next week. The bank manager was there again today. He was glad to see me open the account. He also had a 1967 half for me!

I spent about 45 minutes talking about coins and now the tellers are out looking for me too!

Great bank.

Sounds like a good deal... until the teller wises up and realizes he can use the knowledge you just gave him to cull the keepers for himself.
I agree in the fact that this does sound like a good pick-up bank though, but I would be more cautious about what information you share so that you don't limit your finds.
If I am asked why I want so much coin, I tell them I am a collector, or that it's for stocking vending machines.

I've found educating tellers is the best strategy. Sure, you might lose some coins to the tellers, but the net gains are worth it. For example, a few weeks ago I was asked if I wanted 25 40%ers, of course this bank would have just tossed them in the coin counter and shipped them off if I hadn't educated them about it.

I was very selective when talking to them. I also said I was trying to find key dates form my new collection. I told them I'm working the collection backward from 1970. 8)

Also while talking to one of the tellers, she mentioned she has a trade dollar. She said she had someone look at it once and they told her that it was fake, but they would buy it. She kept it and I told her it was a good choice. I'm guessing someone was trying to take advantage of her.

I'm going to stop in there often and see what they find.
