Ive decided to use a different strategy with my backyard, maybe crazy, but seems to be working. My backyard was used as a burnpit / tash dump from the 1850's to around 1965. So its full of "Garbage" finds. I began using a technique of digging a 2 foot x cube deep and just filtering the dirst through my screen shaker box i built a few years ago. I havent found any good finds yet, but have found numeous minerals and pretty cool igneous and sedimentary rocks with many decent quality fossils. once im finished, my grass should improve and i'll know if i have any decent finds.:laughing7:..........

Well, its been a while since I worked on this idea...... Got way to busy, However........ I 'm currently fixing the Slope of my side yard. So Ive had to remove almost 480' of dirt to fix it, but by removing that dirt, about 18" deep, I'm finally getting to the "Good stuff" First 5 minutes:

1 1959 D nickel
1 1937 wheatie
1 1958 D wheatie
1 Porcelain button

Excellent idea. Should be very interesting stuff coming up.

I think in your environment, that is about your only option.

Good luck!!

More then likely your gonna have to get deep if you wanna get the good stuff, I dig out all sorts of civil war and 18th century trash pits and can tell you stuff will be 3-6 feet deep easily.. Best thing to do is dig deep test holes and see if you get any signals down deep, i'm sure that pit is been buried and buried some more...

when you get done you can come do my house, there's parts in it that the dirt is coal black from burn pits, I pulled almost a 5gallon bucket of trash out of one hole less than 1 foot, by 1 foot.

Been a very busy year! So far i found 1 quater (1972), a few pennys, 2 keys my wife lost years ago to the front door and a lot of trash. Nothing good yet.
