So I have these stone hand axes sitting around my house for a while. I'm new at alll of this but I have to admit its pretty interesting. They were found by my father when they washed up the shore of a lake. The first one is deffinitely something. It has a definite shape that fits into your hand. I'llupload photos.. Overall, I'm just looking for opinions really.. Can I sell them? More important, Are they worth anything? How and Where can I sell them.BadPhotographs.. Welcome to Tnet, you might post them in the Indian artifacts section. Jmo they look like natural formations, not worked. HH :icon_thumright:

Looks natural, another rock made by mother nature.

Yeah I didn't really know where to put it .. but indian? I live in Ireland so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be indian.. As for natural formations, I don't think so tbh, The photos are very bad but the first one especially is slightly worn and quite sharp and fits the hand perfectly.. As for the second, you might be right. Slightly dissapointed, but not surprised, I'll stick around and see some other opinions. Thanks for the quick answer. Also I'll try get some better photographs tomorrow ;)

I see the resemblance on some of those as worthy of being considered artifacts.

Try Googling "neolithic axes" and see if you can match up photos. Google might also provide some price guides too.

They might be neolithic.....But I don't think so, Looks to me like rocks that mother nature just wanted to play with your mind with...JMHO...HH

Your (1st) example is similar to a native American Celt (adze) as opposed to an axe, and it appears to have a worked edge...

The left picture shows the limits of the ground edge and the right top view indicates a sharpened profile.

Your (2nd) example appears to be what some refer to as a sex rock...SA400011.webpSA400012.webp

You should still put them in the Indian artifacts section, tool making is tool making, regardless of the origin, and they have some pretty sharp guys over there. I'm tempted to tell you they're just rocks, but that one looks like it might have been worked. Stay away from that 'fits perfectly in the hand'. I can take you over to the creek here and we can find hundreds of rocks that do that, but doesn't make them artifacts. Hand axes were ok for monkeys and Neanderthals I guess, but my ancestors preferred to put a handle on the ax. Less busted knuckles that way and a better swing. Cool finds.

Hi Paddy, welcome to Tnet.

I have to agree with most that they are natural but without them in my hands the pictures are not that sharp for the details that would help.

You will need them papered if your going to sell them for any real money....From your pictures they still look natural, but it is impossible to tell from pictures anyway, there are faked artifacts all over that are impossible to tell unless you put them under a microscope...

Hi there I collect british and irish neolithic axes and tools and id say that the first one is a neolithic axe - adze but nothing amazing and a little crude in the way there made as alot of irish axes seem too be and collectors really want axes made with a high level of flint knapping skills . as for price and selling ebay would be your best bet but I cant see it making you a rich man you might be lucky enough too get 50 or 60 pounds for it but before you do this you should make sure you take it too local museum so its details and find spot can be listed . hope this has been of use too you
