Hi,

I am fairly new to TH and recently purchased a White MXT.? I've used it enough to get use to it and am now going on a trip to West Virginia and will be hunting on some old farm land.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice in general and specifically, if I should consider any additional coil? I have the standard coil that came with the MXT (9.5").

Any comments or recommendations are appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have an MXT and love it. After about 2 months of hunting I realizeed that the places that I hunt had 2 things in common. The soil was heavily mineralized and there was alot of scrap iron and junk there as well. I contacted Kellyco and bought a 5" excellerator coil and it's been my #1 ever since. I only use the stock coil now at a ball field, the beach or other large open area. I recommend it for really trashy stuff because it can separate the junk out really nicely. I researched them here as well as the Whites MXT forum before I made the decision and haven't regretted it 1 bit. Good luck with your decision and happy hunting.

P.S. This is only my opinion 'cause it works for me.

Good luck and post all finds

Hi,
Thanks for the responses.? I don't know much about coils so I'm in the research stage.

The place where I am going should not have much trash (like in parks, etc). If anything there may be some metal farms stuff, but I would guess that if I get a "hit" it will be something, valueable or not.

I'll have access to about 300-800 acres of land with old farm houses, etc.

Should I then be looking for depth in a coil?? I would also like to use whatever I get in my normal hunting which is beach and neighorhoods.

Thanks

You can get an 8" DD coil for your MXT through Kellyco,

I bought 1 for my DFX and it's well worth the $$

It goes deep, and is better for trashy areas than the standard coil,

you can also get the 1400 DD (8x14 inch I believe) for mineralized soils, and deeper hunting (must be trash free area/s though).

I have the 9.5" - 8" and the (5" for really trashy areas). These will suit most any of your needs in various places. If you get the larger coils, they are heavy, and require trash free areas to hunt because of multiple targets possibly being under them at the same time.

Hey Vike...Welcome to the site. I've got the MXT too. Hunted with the 9.5 stock coil for about 2 months and it's a pretty great loop. Ended up buying a 5.3 coil for it after a trip to a park where there was so much trash it sounded like a drum roll in my headphones. I use it most of the time now because I hunt alot of schools and there's usually tons of pull-tabs. When I hunt private property though, I go back to the 9.5 loop. It has better depth, and you can cover a little more ground. Unless this farm is a one shot deal for you, you only need one coil and the 9.5 is your baby. I find myself going back over old hunting grounds with different coils, as I aquire them, just to see how they do on ground I've already covered. As for more general advice about the hunt, make sure you dig the overload signals. There's usually something old and cool under these signals, and you never know....Could be a Ball canning jar full of old coins :o Good luck and have fun~CO2
