Hello Fellow CRHers,

Following in the famous footsteps of the beloved CRHing veteran mountainman 2, who last year had a wildly popular weekly thread titled "The Search", I will create a similar weekly thread titled "Keepers". Many of us only post about the big stuff (i.e. - SILVER DOLLARS, SILVER HALVES, SILVER QUARTERS, SILVER DIMES, SILVER NICKELS) but not too much about other "keepers" that aren't really worth that much but coins you just have to hang on to nonetheless!

Since I search all denominations (except those crappy gold dollar coins of course) and a good amount of each as well, my weekly keepers are usually many and varied and each go in their proper container ;D. This thread will highlight my weekly searches and overview all of my "keepers". :icon_sunny:

Without any further ado, here are my Week #1 Keepers...

Cents ($100 Searched):
[34] Wheats
[18] Pounds of Copper Cents (I hand sort for keepers first then use my Ryedale to sort the copper from the st-zincs)
[1] '74D Cent Counter-Stamped with Kennedys Head
[1] 1981 Bermuda Pig Penny
[4] KG VI Canadian Copper Cents ('52 and earlier)
[8] QE II Canadian Copper Cents ('53 - '64)
[116] QE II Canadian Copper Cents ('65 - '96)

Nickels ($80 Searched):
[1] 1937 Buffalo Nickel
[5] Pre '82 Canadian Nickels

Since I don't need any more nickles for my set, I do not keep any pre '60 nickels anymore!

Dimes ($1405 Searched):
[10] Roosies
[2] QE II 80% Silver Canadian Dimes ('58 & '59)
[1] QE II 1968 50% Silver Canadian Dime (Found in garbage can next to the coin machine) :icon_sunny:
[1] QE II 1988 Bermuda Dime
[1] QE II 1999 Bermuda Dime

A few of my pick-up banks did not have a lot/any dimes to spare this week!

Quarters:

I didn't have the time or patience to look through any quarters this week!

Halves ($5020 Searched):
[1] '64
[3] 40%ers
[1] '72S Proof
[1] '77 Gold-Plated Counter-Stamped Half (1960-1985)
[1] '86 Gold-Plated Counter-Stamped Half (Lincoln's Head on right of Kennedy's Head and 1964-1984 on the left)

I picked up three extra boxes of halves this week but it didn't help at all - halves were really weak this week! :'(

Dollars ($37 Searched):
[36] Clad Ikes
[1] 1776-1976 40% Silver Ike

Tokens:
[1] DAC (Dynamic Amusement Company) Token found in the garbage can next to the coin machine

That's it for this week! :icon_sunny:

looks like you are off to a good start $$. I notice you seem to find a lot of Canadian coins. The most Canadian coins I seem to find are cents but I rarely ever find any Canadian pre - '82 nickels and I've still not found any Canadian silver yet - yet.

Well I'm looking foward to seeing all your finds for this year. I hope you do even better than the great year you had in 2011. :)

That is a great start to the year SilverSurfer (which is my favorite comic book character!) Good Luck.

I remember I used to have some SilverSurfer comic books years ago. Btw $$, I don't think I've mentioned it but I've actually used the name SilverSurfer a few times myself on another coin blog I used to post on before I found this coin forum site. :)

I am sure that I have a few silversurfer comics stashed around somewhere still........I will have to look for them. I will be 50 next month, but I haven't turned them over to my kids.....yet!

Thanks for your comments friends! I was never a big comic book guy (I was more of a card-collecting fellow), but I did love watching the X-Men cartoon on Saturday mornings and did like the Silver Surfer character as well but that was not the reason I chose the name. I love silver and I am always surfin' the net for good deals on the sweet stuff so I put the two things together with some dollar signs. :icon_sunny:

I am excited to keep this weekly thread going and would love to know if others find and hold onto the types of "keepers" that I do!

I have read somewhere that there are some mint errors in those crappy coins. I dont know how regularly they can be found, or if they are even worth a look? Do any of you check into gold dollars?

Would be cool to find an error, and I dont think you will get crazy looks ordering these either.
