Hey everyone, my mom is from the keys and grew up with a lot of the salvors down there. We recently bought a small collection and have id'd most but I have one here I need help with. I have searched around and this cob just doesn't jive with what I have read so I'm looking for help. It's a shield cob, potosi but any information you can give me would help. Thanks in advance! image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

I can't help with id but sounds like your mom and you may have some fantastic stories to tell. That is a beauty. Can we see the whole collection?

Its hard to put in words why its so obivious to me. But I'll explain, I've collected British coins for 31. I've detected & found coins for 29 years. Dad & I find about 50 hammered coins a year, so we know what they look like. We also log about 1000 dug Roman coins a year to the British Museum Standard, Cru'dad is now a specialist in these & I'm a little behind him because I do all other periods other than Roman. With so many British varieties of coins, I don't bother with foriegn ones unless I find one.
So although I can't ID (without researching) Spanish Coins I can see a repro instantly, although there are the odd good ones that I could toss a coin over.
Bearing that in mind, its because it doesn't shows sign of being hammered, in fact the opposite, its cast.

Your other one, I can't ID, but its 100% real.

Here is an Atocha coin I bought on a chance and it had what I learned to be the original inventory tag and I was able to look it up. I love this one too.IMG_5058.JPGIMG_5059.JPGIMG_5063.JPGIMG_5064.PNG
