This pic I took last winter from 33,000 feet! ;) flying south/southwest off the atlantic heading down the eastside of Canada (Labrador/Quebec) sure looked like a meteor crater I thought!
The other 'summertime' pic (found on the Web) with the fin which came from outerspace. Rotate the pics and Whatta ya think folks! Could this be the same Manicouagan Meteor Crater!!?? :)

I have been looking at that formation for years on maps, google earth etc. I don't think it is a crater as it has a peaked mount in the middle of the lake. If you zoom in on google earth, the area is inhabited and looks to be some resorts there as well. It is by far the coolest formation in North America in my opinion. I want to go there and drive the boat all the way around. I hope there is good pike fishing there as well. Maybe one of these days.

My guess is that it may be an old kimberlite pipe and hopefully full of diamonds! Not much info on the geology of it on the web though. May just have to go visit.

Ha! If you ever did!..Would love to join you Trollfish!
But I bet the bugs ( mosquitos & black-flies) in the summer will be big as helicopters up there!! heh heh heh! ;)

Blackflies be damned, nasty buggers. I was fishing the Penobscot(sp?) River in Maine about 20 years ago for trout with a friend. He goes out that morning wearing a funny little netted hat. I ask him what is that for? He just giggles and says no matter, it was his lucky fishing get up. Lying SOB new exactly what it was for, and I didn't realize that black flies came that far south. Miserable day in my life. They taste teribble. I went and got me on of those netty hats that afternoon.

Seems blackflies are attracted to DEET as well, they must drink it to get high or something. Sure doesn't repel them. LOL

IF I go, I will let you know. Just not sure if I am coming back when I do go. Might just be kimberlite afterall!!!

I call'em a mesh-hat...great for fishing, camping, wild leeks and mushroom pickin, all our types of hunting etc.
Ha! up there..summer bugs: Thick!! I've heard.
DEET!...the new stuff is so diluted now (check the container small print, very low % of actual DEET)...I've a few older little containers I've saved.. with 'TRIPLE' the concentrate%! Works excellent!!...Just be sure to put it in the palm of your hand first..then...rub your exposed areas, hair too...and don't forget to wash your palms and fingers with water after applying (bottled water, a creek, puddle..it all works..because..we all touch our faces around our eyes and mouths with-out noticing! Don't know much about diamond hunting...but know it would be an amazing hunt!
Cheers! :)

Looks like there ought to be some potential for adventure. Isn't it true that all adventures have some type of hazzard. I heard that pure, full strength vanilla extract helps to keep the mosquitoes off, but unsure if it works on blackflies.

Ha!...old digger...If "bugs" were the only hazardous concern...that would be a 'first ever' for me!! ;)
May just have to try the vanilla extract pickin my spring Leeks!....I've just one question!!!....
If I am "Head down with A$$ up".. diggin Leeks in the bush, smeared with 'Vanilla Extract'!!
Would other things...oooh let see? :icon_scratch:...such as Bears! like to come up and give me a "Lick"!!?? :laughing7: Heh,Heh,Heh!!

Be Careful now? :laughing7: Lip-smacking-good! :tongue3: At least your hinnie would be clean as PSSSST!

Would you want to share the coordinates?

The place is called Lac Manicougan in Quebec , Canada. I don't have coordinates. Funny thing, I used to work on the GPS and satnav gear in the Navy, but I don't own or use one now. Go figure??

They are very handy. I go to the mountains and I can get lost. I shouldn't say lost, just powerfully confused for awhile. I like to use mine along with Google satellite images that I imbed coordinates. But I don't text, spaceface, twitter, or social network so I'm still a Luddite.

Manicouagan Crater is one of the oldest known impact craters on Earth
