Good day of detecting today with a well mixed bag of finds! Wheaties, buffy nickle, Oklahoma tax token, jewelry, silver and a relic! The Eagle coat button was certainly a shocker of a find. Public land, hunted a ton over the years. Nothing existed here prior to 1893. I was highly surprised at how well it cleaned up. I never expected what came out of the hole to look so nice or have so much gilt remaining.
My research shows this eagle button is an Army coat button from 1893 to 1902. This very likely could have been lost from a soldier at the land run.

The ring isnt gold but it sure got my blood pumping when i popped it out!

As I dug the wheaties and buffy i was reminding myself how hard this spot has been hunted and that the easy targets were long gone. Then BAM i hit a loud and clear dime that wasn't deep. I was surprised to see a mercury dime only about 3 inches down in the plug!

Awesome finds for a hunted out site! :icon_thumright:

Man that gold wedding ring is quite the find if it's real gold. :notworthy:
Love the look of that early Oklahoma tax token too.

Oh yeah, nice US Army Button

Great finds. Congratulations

Nice hunt, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Awesome looking ring and other finds. Congrats on a good outing.

About every Oklahoma tax token I’ve found has one or two little rusty looking spots.

Yeah, whatever alloy of aluminum they used was horrible. I've never dug one in good condition. This one is about as good as they get from a corrosion standpoint. I have many that were about 50% remaining metal. I think I have dug more folded ones than flat. I guess when they stopped being used people "wadded" them and tossed them to the ground.

Thanks, I hit these sites with a "different" mindset. Plan on digging lots of rusty iron, and actively hunt for indians and nickels because those are what typically get ignored by most other hunters.

The ground there is very kind to the coins, nice job!!

I’ve got several in mint condition, but they’re ones my great grandpa kept, the aluminum alloy metal they used was crap. I think you’re correct on the folding part because I’ve found countless folded ones, and it’s not from it being in the ground, I’ve found too many for them to just be folded from being underground. It’s amazing how many we get over here in Arkansas. I mean I’m only 20 minutes from the fort smith/Oklahoma line is so it’s not uncommon to find them over here

Interesting. for the hundreds I've dug, 99.9% have been Oklahoma which you would think is obvious. But you have dug many OK while in AR. I have dug 1 each from MO, CO, I think one was utah or wyoming, and 1 from KS. I would have thought I would see more from other states, just from people moving around.

I’ve got probably 8-10 of them from Oklahoma that I’ve found from fort smith all the way to northwest Arkansas.

Great job! Super grouping of saves :icon_thumleft:
