Never did find what kind of bullet this was.

Found some of these in Virginia. never removed the shell so I am not to sure how old it is. Anyone know?
I live in Florida now and just have to dig through the CW relics now and then.

The bullet in question appears to be a .54 Caliber Burnside Brass Cartridge Bullet.

You got it a burnside for sure dates to the civil war. Now If I could find the spot you dug those up I would go detecting. ;D
 

Thanks for the info! I found about six of them in the same spot. Might be four left if they dropped the whole pack.
That was a few years back. They most likely have a house on top of them now. I did land surveying around Fredricksburg. Man what a sweet job that was. Ran across all kinds of CW stuff. Those were the days!!
