NEED SOME HELP??

I'm wanting to say this would be in the location of Port Hudson. But, the area you are describing is throwing me off. Someone more familiar with these areas will probably help you more than I can.

This may help a little to determine which area/battle you are referring to http://www.nps.gov/history/hps/abpp/battles/bystate.htm#la

:wink: RR

I agree with River Rat, sounds like Port Hudson to me!

I believe it is somewhere just South of Angola, Tunica rings a bell for some reason. The creek on the trail is the ONLY creek with 16 waterfalls throughout the trail and throughout the area as well. The highest waterfall during the time I visited it in 2001 was about 18 feet tall. There is an OLD store that was built in 1800's. The store has showcases FULL of lead bullets found and other CW era artifacts found in the area.

I am posting a picture from google earth as the area I think where it might be. As my memory comes to me, I believe it is OFF the road that leads to Angola, then you turn left on a small 2 lane road going west. Then it comes to like a T in the road, the store is kinda on the upper hill on the T on the right and then across the street is where people park to go hiking on the trails. I looked on Google Earth, but I can't seem to find the location, especially the parking area where I know would be cars.

I had trouble putting the pic from Google Earth.

Here are the coordinites, this is somewhere in the general vicinity;

30°55'36.99"N 91°30'51.76"W

Also it was NOT that close to the river.

Thanks everyone for your help. I DO BELIEVE, this IS the place, and from your directions Token, I believe that is the way I went. When me and my best friend went there on weekends to hike back in 1983 I was just 21 years old at the time and we would go there just about every weekend. The trails were pretty much dirt and the trails didn't have many bridges to cross the shallow creek. You pretty much had to find a place shallow enough or some bigger rocks to step on to get across without getting your feet wet. When we went into the store and saw all the CW era stuff, we were amazed at how much was there. Of course at that time I didn't think to get into MDing until last year. When I went back there in 2001 prior to leaving for Afghanistan, (being I hadn't been in the area for quite a many few years), I noticed then in 2001 that they built bridges to cross low areas as the trails changed a little. My best friend and I used to go off the trial and seek further exploration around the area and saw burms that were man made from a long time ago. Thanks RR and token for your help.

Now that I see it is PArks and Wildlife recreation I guess NO MDing can be done. I would like to find areas around there to MD though.

HarleyMan2,

The area that you are rerfering to, is actually located just across the state line in Mississippi. The name of the community and the store is "Pond". The store has been there since 1881 and is the jumping off place for the trails to the waterfalls. The trails are a Mississippi state park and is called "Clark's Creek". Beautiful area and falls. Spent a lot of time in there in the 80's. Here's a link for you.........http://www.geol.lsu.edu/Faculty/Ferrell/class/ClarkCreek/directions.html

YEAP that IT IS! I do remember going to MS to take the side road and after looking at Google Earth, that IS the route I DID take from Woodville. I guess NO MDing is allowed huh? Well, at least i go go visit, bring back memories and enjoy the scenery, anyone want to go with me in March?
