I have been reading along for quiet some time now and finally made the decision to ask for some help.

I posted this in the maps forum as well.

Can anyone help me locate a map with the location of Camp Harry J. Jones near Douglas, Arizona? More specifically, the layout of the camp. This camp had about 15,000 troops there during the turmoil with one Francisco "Pancho" Villa. It was an artillery camp that also had about 1,000 horses and 200 mules. I have a lot of general info on this camp, but nothing more specific like gun emplacements and such. I am also trying to locate the outpost named Forrest Station which was located "a few miles west of Douglas."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your County historical society should be able to help.
The state map archives, and the nearest collage should have a map room.
those are the places I go when looking for old maps.but make sure you have all day to go through maps because when you get into the map archives room you won't want to leave.

Thasnks Red,

I didn't think about the college here. The University of Arizona has a branch here where they teach flying.... amongst other things. Just so happens that their airfield appears to also have been an Army airfield a long time ago. It is also "a few miles west" of Douglas. I am now wondering if it may be the location of the elusive Forrest Station. By the way... Forrest Station has to be named for a person named Forrest....'cause there sure isn't any forrests anywhere near Douglas!

Camp Harry J. Jones was formerly known as Camp Douglas and it was located in the vicinity of Jefferson and Van Buren Avenues. If fact several years ago, an old WWI artillery shell was found there by a local businessman named Bill Mason. When Mason dropped the shell off at the Douglas Fire Department, the first thing Fire Chief Richard Ross did was shutdown 10th Street and everything within a block of the fire house from Carmelita to Estrella Avenues. My research indicates that the camp was located on the east side of the town. I'll keep digging....(pun intended) Thought you would like to know! ;D

Thanks Mark, that will help me get started. Any more info that you can give would be greatly appreciated! Went by and looked that area over, not much there in the way of.... well.... anything really, just flat desert mostly.

Another piece of info I found is the Arizona Historical Society branch in Tuscon has alot more information. I think they may even have photos and a map from what I can find on their web site. Go to their web site and they have phone numbers listed. I don't live in the area anymore so it would be a haul for me to go there! :D
