kuger said:Ahhhh, another anchor tongue. The true back ground on these is as inconclusive as the anchor buttons. There has been a great deal of discussion and research on my end but no solid leads.I have two types a cast brass, and a stamped brass. The stamped brass along with several other examples I know of came from strictly 1850 camps,on the left coast. The cast one is beleived to be later and possibly of British origins.
Now there is a similar one that shows a strong resemblance to yours that was found on a Spanish ship, from the 1700's,I will try to find it in my many book marks
Found it!!Wow looking at it again there is a striking resemblance there!!!Does your piece appear to be stamped or cast brass?

Well you find the uniform that the button goes on and you're probably going to have your answer to the buckle. Now seeing the other piece of this puzzle your buckle is going to date later than the one shown on the website. (maybe mid. 1800s) That probably explains the difference in design.
