Need some help with a whites MD

I recently inherited a whites 6000 Di Pro Sl and the detector works fine but the speaker is shot and does not work the cone has completely disintegrated from all the nicotine from cigarettes being smoked in the house, I have gone to radio shack and they do not have anything even remotely close to this speaker, I have searched the web both yahoo and google even eBay doesn't have the speaker. i could send it to whites but the minimum charge is $65.00 so i really dont want to pay $65 bucks for a few dollar speaker. I know that speaker have had to fail in the past, but where in the hell do you get a new one from. Any help would be grateful. The speaker reads (4 OHM 0.3 WATTS) "TAWIAN"

Will it work with headphones? If so you are in good shape as most people do not hunt with the external speaker anyway

I concur with Erikk. If it works with headphones I wouldn't worry about it. I don't recall the last time I detected without headphones, saves on battery money.

Thats a reall good unit there,probobly worth around 300 bucks.So its wotrh fixing in my opinion.I am one of those oddball guys who goes headphone free.I cant stand them especially in hot weather

i would just use headphones as well, would think you could order a speaker yourself from whites and install it

i do believe you can get just the part if you write to whites or even google it cant be too hard to replace but easier is to follow the advice above use headphones using speakers shortens the battery life as well

No it wont work without the speaker, I cut the speaker out and and tried the headphones and no sound, then tried it with the speaker in the unit and still no tone?

Yea I watched two on eBay one sold for 468.42 and the other sold for 540.00 so I think that it is a good detector and I agree with you I like the headphone's and it does sound better but the damn things do get hot in the summer.

My Guess a Speaker isn't going to help if Headphones don't.
