Hi all, first post on here but had an exciting first day back from the winter. I'm living in Bavaria Germany and pulled this out of a field near my house. It's definitely handmade, heavy. Any thoughts? Maybe a small pommel of sorts? image1.JPGimage2.JPGimage3.JPG

Thanks!

Hi guys; I can't agree with finial. It appears too large and heavy. I'm gonna have to go with a sword Pommel. What is it's weight and size dimensions ??? PEACE:RONB

Thanks for the input. I Just moved apartments so I'll have to find the box with the scale.

Also just cleaned this off from the same field :)image4.JPG

When I saw it, I instantly thought finial as well - but not from a curtain rod. I would have guessed from a lamp - the finial that holds the shade on. Have seen much larger and heavier ones than that.

I THINK SWORD OR KNIFE POMMEL TOO

Seems small for sword pommel, but knife/dagger maybe.

if it has threads in side i would go with a dagger finial
is not it will be a curtain rod
finial
they did make them very heavy and from cast iron
the design is a well known curtain rod design
i think it was called a pineapple design have to look in the books

Can't see the colour to well but it looks like brass which would make it a more modern finial. Although if it's Bronze it has a better chance of a late medieval pommel. However, it doesn't match any British examples I've seen.

To me it looks more modern cast ie Georgian/Victorian.

Further cleaning revealed threads, I'll try to get some better pictures after work. Thanks for all the insight this far!

I once had an Imperial German court sword from Saxony made by W.K.&C. It had a nearly identical pommel. Could also be from a fire officials dress dagger. Wait for Oddjob to chime in on it.

Tread points to the period I suggested, it also suggests the material is brass & that its a finial. The only question is to what?

Lamp finial gets my vote. I have rebuilt quite a few over the years to sell at flea markets.
That looks like the finial that would lock the shade onto the lamp harp. What is the thread size.
Congrats on your finds.
